I am a 60 year old black man who has had many dreams that were never fulfilled. I am impressed with your wisdom at an early age, you see things that I have lived through many years of pursuing dreams and not fulfilling them. But in my pursuit of, searching caves, looking under rocks, and behind trees, I have found little trinkets that have added a wholesomeness and certain quality to who I am as a person and even though I may not have achieved many of my dreams I satisfied with my life.

Dear Mr. Reynolds, After watching you perform your poem "FOR EVERYONE" it moved me. It makes me feel like almost anything is possible after that. I respect how honest and vulnerable you were during your presentation and on paper. How you used your own life experience to connect with the audience was effective. I connected to the part when you jumped back to your teen years, when you said "I thought/ I would've made it by now"(14). I am seventeen and currently in high school. I am experiencing the same feeling. I feel partially independent, but I feel like I should feel more complete. Even though I didn't relate to everything you said, I connect on that level. I felt included, and it made me think about the future and how there's hope. Towards the ending of your poem when you mention that you feel that you didn't have much more to say, it was enough for me. You inspired me to stay motivated no matter the circumstance. Your words motivated me to keep my engine running because I have dreams. I am thinking about college and I have goals ahead of me. Even when I won't know where I am going, I think there is a plan set out for me somewhere, somehow. Thank you for writing a poem that I felt connected and inspired by. This is the first time that poetry had an effect on me. For me you are the one that opened up a new way of seeing poetry. I look forward to re-reading this during those days I may lose hope. Please keep writing and inspiring others with your words. Respectfully, Anna Galvin

Don't ever feel like you have to hide your tears. As a guy, I've been sad and not cried because of the stigma against men showing emotion, and I've let it stop me. But don't, it's perfectly healthy, and if it changes someone's perception of you so what, you're human and things will upset you, and crying is an outlet.

Dear Jason Reynolds, In all honesty when I first started reading the book I couldn't take in the words you were saying. I wasn't allowing myself to be openminded, thinking that this was going to be yet another self help book I've read urning to find something I could relate to. It wasn't until I read, "Nobody really knows what it depends on, but everybody knows it depends." (19, Reynolds) there was something that spoke to me and opened my mind to the wisdom you had to offer. I started to mark the pages that moved me or made me think and reflect, this was the first page I marked. As I kept reading I did not expect to feel any emotion till I started get teary eyed, "My eyes swollen with exhaustion, my body sputtering on its way down, but my dream won't stop crying, screaming like a colicky infant. Sometimes I think that it needs to be changed usually it just needs to be fed." (52, Reynolds) There have been so many times I've wanted to give up on my dream, thinking that its too hard to achieve, putting myself down by saying that I'm not good enough, and being scared of what was to come. You have reminded me that I am more than capable of achieving my dreams, that they need to be fed passion, resilience, positivity, and smother the embers of doubt that linger. Your words have helped me realize that we all have dreams and they do not require a timeline, nor do they have deadlines, and the journey we take won't always be perfect. (76, Reynolds) Thank you for helping me find my truth and thank you for your words of encouragement, I will be using them as firelight through my journey.

I had to do an analogy on this poem for my 6th grade ELA class. I have never related more to anything. This poem is what got me into writing poetry, and stories about my thoughts & feelings. Jason Reynolds is my favorite author. I listen to this poem every time I am down or want to get into a writing headspace. So thank you Jason.

Mr. Reynolds Your performance of this book was really inspiring and heart felt. Seeing it spoken in the since you spoke it really brings the words to life. A person's thoughts, written on paper, constructed in a plan, to make things happen. You made it known how a person may really feel. It's seen how a person may have an idea of wanting to succeed, and how many may have an idea to provide you on what you should, could, or might do to get to where you want to go. but how life can take ones plans and cause it to be you verses your determination to success and the road it actually takes to get there. The pauses and changes in the music causes a whole new vibe at times a moment to take time to reflect on how these thing might effect you or actually take time to think wow. There are really people in the world who feel this way, act this way, or live life in a way that their vision and purpose to succeed drives them to success despite whatever comes their way.

So very encouraging! It sheds light on all of us, no matter what color, that life can be tough and our expectations may not always be met. Nevertheless, I recognize as a white male, this road is more easily traveled. What matters is the dreams of what could be, held by us all, and that now is the time to see life as “you and me” NOT “us and them”. Thank you for this. Keep sharing the message. I share the dream, the courage!

We try to avoid the truth, we tend to forget we aren't the only one growing through things. or we lessen our struggles and pain because we been told to not be too selfish and it feels to some that it is to selfish. maybe to burden others to feel as if you blow it out of promotion, its our society that theres so many stranglers, those who've collapse before they've reached their goal .He's also stated that society sees as struggles is admiral they romatize it but don't realize the person is burning, constantly burning and unable to stop it only learning how to see past the pain to no longer feel the pain. what we romanticize is those who've learned to see the fire as a process to see that. after you see the pain the danger of burning, you become warmed you see how the burning has changed you and still is changing you but you are only seeing past the pain. that doesn't mean the pain has disappeared, its still there and always be there, the pain will come back 100x worse or 50x less then it was when it first started burning because it a step by step process that can take steps back. We keep our fires close adn "use it as firelight for the long and often dark road" just my 2 cents- a little messing cause i didn't proof but we watched this as an assignment and thought it would be important to share

So, same here had to watch this for school. Im a very literal person, so I have a hard time with poems. I do like trying to look into and appreciate works and maybe the meaning behind. Looking through the comments here, people are saying that this spoke to them, and this changed their life, and Im like I mean it's a great poem, but it didn't speak to me like that. I think saying that "Im not impressed" may be over exaggerating, or maybe youre really trying to understand it at all. Saying Im not impressed is pretty vague, so why dont you elaborate on that? Why arent you impressed? Does it not speak to you how it spoke to others? Do you not understand it? Are you not trying in the least bit to understand it? Are you not trying in the least bit to appreciate it? I think at least trying to do all of the above will make you a better person if you are not :>
