Can you imagine what it must of been like for Gordon? One moment he's kiting his normal life and in a single moment everything changes. He pushes on through that facility because he has too. Fighting against all the odds and suddenly becoming this symbol of hope for the scientists, then being sent to fight an unspeakable horror and. Then.. stasis.. and in a matter of three days from your perspective you lose twenty years of your life, any family you had gone, your world being ravaged. So he pushes on again.. he does what needs to be done. Gordon Freeman is the embodiment of human potential. It's why GMAN takes an interest in him.
@Malpaise_Legate Жыл бұрын
The only part you said that I disagree with is, "in a matter of 3 days you lose 20 years of your life." The time frame between Freeman being in placed in stasis and being awoken on the train to City 17, nineteen years after the events in at the Black Mesas facility and the battle against the Nihilanth in Xen, never came with the caveat of continued aging for Gordon. Eli Vance's words make this clear, "You look like you haven't aged one iota." Gordon was still just as old as he was when he stepped off the tram with G-man at the end of Half Life, as he was when the City 17 transferee said, "I didn't see you get on the train..."

My personal headcanon has always been that after he awakens next to the Anti-mass spectrometer he just takes it off due to being kind of loopey after the head trauma, he probably figured he wouldn't need it anymore since he's not going to continue the expiriment anyways, he probably realises later on that he should've kept it on though

@rabbitjack19909 ай бұрын
Although it would be so badass, no, Gordon keeps his helmet on for the entirety of Half-Life. He was shown without one in the game-arts for commercial purposes. I think canonically he took it off from time to time when speaking with the scientists but even if that wasnt the case I doubt if he would ever need to since he was basically almost the only one left in the facility wearing a HEV suit and doing all that stuff. The head-crabs not attaching is not a reason for my point though, since it was confirmed that Gordon canonically never let a head-crab reach his head. But in HL2 he never wears one.

Eli meant that literally, Gordon has literally not aged a day since the last time Eli saw him back in Black Mesa even though it has been 20 years thus the jokey way he says "How do you do it" as in maintain his youth, he himself is a old man after all. Just imagine seeing an old friend 20 years later and looking literally the same as the last time you saw them, must be jarring as hell. But seeing how Eli reacted, it's clear he knows Gman has something to do with it so he reacts more "casually" to it Not saying Gordon hasn't gone through a lot, he most certainly has in the little time that has passed (when awake/aware), and everything he has experienced must have changed him a lot from the man he used to be before everything went down. He must have looked exhausted as hell when meeting Eli, but I don't think he would have seen it as anything abnormal considering everybody and their mother are put to their limits every day both physically and mentally trying to survive under Combine's rule.

if someone does a half life movie it would most likely be some shitty netflix original that has almost nothing to do with the game lore. But if it was written perfectly and it included Adrian, Barney, Gina, Colette and Gordon. Had all the events like bosses, resonance cascade, gordon launching missile. Stuff like that and had the same musics just a bit more remastered. That would be perfect. (and the charecters would talk, gordon would be just the more quiet one cuz that is kinda gordons charecter.

I think this newer take on Gordon was inspired by his appearance in Half Life Alyx. Compared to official art (namely the box art for HL2 and its episodes), HLA Gordon is not exactly a body builder, and the HEV suit isn't explicitly designed for soldiers. The official Gordon model is a lot closer to what a person in his field might look like. Thin, kinda lanky, and generally unassuming at a glance. And it's this appearance, along with broader understanding of the events immediately following the Black Mesa Incident that we see this characterization of Gordon. A theoretical physicist facing horrors literally not of this world within no more than a week's time of constant motion, constant fighting for survival of not only himself but the entire human race, along with bearing the expectation of being some messianic figure for two completely separate species (humanity and Vortigaunts). Doctor Breen, in the address to the Combine forces heard at Nova Prospekt, put it best; "Gordon Freeman is an ordinary man."

Gordon, to me, always felt like the wrong man in the right place. he has been traumatized by the events in half life, therefore being mute while already being a silent man of few words. he went from the end of half life one, right into half life 2 the world being in shambles and a alien race using humans and the earth for resources, he's in constant whiplash. one event to another with no break in between. and whenever he would feel safe, like getting to Eli's lab, he had minutes of rest. just to go right back into fighting.
