Besides the disconnects and the struggles of not having developed reflexes to counter guard break, the first days of this game were golden. Before everyone figured out the cheap exploits and unbalanced moves. This game could of been a masterpiece.

Sneaky Pewpz It is still really fun for casual play though. The campaign is enjoyable, but doesn't feel very polished. Multiplayer is a ton of fun, but the better you get and the more serious you play, the more saltier encounters you'll have and the more you'll hate the game. If it's on a discount I recommend to buy it and just play for fun

I liked the video and only watched some small clips of the tournament, but I agree with what you were saying. It's unfortunate that sometimes fights in this game, with really skilled players that know the exploits etc. Boil down to using those exploits in order to win. Honestly being a new player I find the centurion to be really overwhelming and almost impossible to fight against.

When the new heroes dropped my buddy and I were doing 2v2's. There was this guy that was exploiting a bug with lawbringer that he was able to cancel a shove to a guardbreak with an emote then, used an untac glitch with centurion to land an unblockable and the guy denied he was exploiting a bug. Shame to see this game go in to a direction like this

Did you purchase it? The free weekend sold me. I've been really enjoying it and met someone who played since the beta and during my free weekend time they "trained" with me and that helped out a lot. I've been playing against like level 2 and 3 AI in pve dominion and I guess that's good practice since AI have perfect reflexes right? Guard and counter guard breaking is quite the challenge to get the hang of.

Just want to add that a rep 1 can beat a rep 30. Many people who are high rep mostly play bots and farm XP there. Reputation does not equal skill in the game. But in the lower left, it will tell you your skill with your opponent. Don't know how accurate it is but I've been matched with rep 100 people (I know the max is 30 but they have multiple high-level characters) and still win while I'm only rep 5.

It is February 2019 and this game is alive and well. The developers spent all of 2018 fixing and updating it, implementing new mechanics to combat some of the bs in that tourney. I'm a day 1 player. I watched the tournament. The game is much different now. I'm proud of how far we have come.

I haven't gone against any bugs after my 3rd week but yeah the smurfs are here and there. Though I must admit the smurfs I've gone against haven't been super frustrating and outside of duel teammates can help a lot to lighten the load. I just hope the game improves on console since a lot of people really do want to fully enjoy the game. PS4s free offer is proof of that imo. 400ms lights on top of the lag and stuff consoles have are really hard to deal with at times and I really fucking hope they find a way around these unfortunate weaknesses console has.

@@alexrainbow1882 oh it will ne frustrating at times but it is also very satisfying. A true test of skill on which winning is just about who aimed first or spammed first. Even light spam becomes a non issue once you play long enough and learn key things. Timing, sound cues, animations, colors, patterns, what the opponents moveset actually allows them to do, what they are favoring doing etc. I'll say it once, the training arena is life. I'm a day 1 player but I start every gaming session with a minimum q0 minutes warmup in the arena against whomever I was struggling against the last time. Spend a day doing repetitions against certain heroes most effective moves and you will grow.

andy werwert Now the game seems to be heading in the right direction after this tournament, they removed flicker zones, most unlock techs (as far as I know), introduced stamina drain if you run away in duel, multiple character reworks, new parry changes that lessens the turtle meta and fixed other miscellaneous bugs. But I fear the damage may have been too great and I doubt it will ever get the player base that it had at launch.

You know, most players will agree with this video, because the average player shares your views. But good players? Top players? None of them think this way. When $10,000 is on the line, and a potential career playing a game, if there's no rule against it, and it can help you win, good players can and WILL use whatever tactic they must to win. Playing by some arbitrary rule you made up for yourself is only a handicap. What these players did here is aim for a win to the very best of their ability no matter the cost, and that's why they're top players. Revenge is so inconsistent right now. Enemy gets revenge during 1v1 mid health, I get revenge 1v4 1 bar of health, it's also sometimes delayed on console.

i bought this game called "absolver" a few month ago, its an rpg that tries to simulate melee combat, mostly unarmed, and damn it was the same bullshit. the difference there was that people could unlock moves and create their own combos. all you would encounter in that game where people constantly exploiting all those moves that were way too unpredictable, i never played a game that enraged me this hard, i was shouting so loud i think my neighbors even had to recognize that the dude i was playing against was an inbred piece of shit... but its the same with tekken, who ever played tekken online for 5 rounds knows what im talking about. its not just for honor, its fighting games in general.

well, in both games, absolver and tekken i didnt spent too much time, therefore yh i am probably bad compared to other people. but you can tell the difference between people who are overall good in these games, and people who just became pro in exploiting unbalanced methods. i once played against someone in tekken 5, he had like 8000 rounds played in total, 5000 lost and 3000 won, he used bob, this chubby dude with the breaddance moves, and all he did was kicking low until i blocked low, then he hit high until i blocked high, and that was the whole game, and he had 8000 rounds played so he did this shit for 8000 rounds...and i had 50 maybe. i dont need to be a pro to know thats some class a exploiting right there. and he was just one example.

This video probably might be one of the sole reasons For Honor's reputation is so stained. And it still is. It is a good video, but looking back on it, a lot of people's introduction to For Honor was this video. The game's a ton better now, with loads of players who believe these issues are still in the game. They're not, not the ones that plagued this tournament at the very least. It isn't really the video's fault at the end of the day though, as For Honor should have never done these official tournaments until the game was ready. I don't know what the hell they were thinking back then, but I believe the developers were far more dense and out of touch with their community than they are nowadays. If they knew half these things were possible, they would have never done tournaments, but they were too ignorant to see what players were figuring out about their broken system at the time. It's just a shame that this is what a lot of folks think of when they see the game, even years later. This game could be thriving if these tournaments were never held until the game was ready. It has more competitive merit than its ever had.
