I'm a huge fan of Viking History, and I've been saying for years they need to make the vikings in For Honor more civilized. Half of them are cannibals or bloodlusted hobos

Or at least give them some different gear going from savages to more realistic and proper arnored ones. As far as Vikings go in the game is just a shirt with increasingly bigger carcasses in the head.

Well its believable cause if you watch his animation he's grabbing the blade ( wich is a dumb thing to do ) and the handle therfore hes pretty much using it as a pole and if you do some digging ( its late as balls and I want sleep ) there was a guy that used a claymore and a battle axe for combat it not fiction cause you have texts written by the scots talking about him

So happy to see my main Highlander here. I didn't expect him to be as historically plausible as you pointed out. I always assumed he was a beefed up version of the romanticized Highlander, which he still is, but seeing that his weapons are somewhat inspired by other existing ones from nearby cultures is nice. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is baffled by the fact that he lacks any proper options for the classic "highlands claymore" with quillons look (I am referring to the great sword, not the basket hilted sword. Apparently even though this usage is technically incorrect, it has become widely accepted due to how widespread it is.) I really wonder what his new armor will look like and which direction they can take him, considering Aramusha, Shaman and Centurions new armors all brought something new to the table.

The definition of claymore is controversial but the reality of the situation is that the meaning has shifted, it is correct to call a 2 handed Scottish sword with forward sloping quillions a claymore by the modern sense of that word, much like how decimated doesn't mean to destroy 10% of a thing anymore. In addition words like great sword, arming sword rapier and side sword didn't mean the same back then as those words do now. Amazing video as always!

The mercenary explanation parallels what we know about the Highlanders in lore, so coincidence or not that's cool. Also if it's not a coincidence hes probably only wearing leathers to fit in with the Vikings and is probably the second most heavily armored of his faction to make up for that.

By the way, the sword actually IS a claymore. Skallagrim gets this wrong, too. Granted, it's actually the lesser-known claymore because, historically, they weren't all that popular. This particular sword is called a "claidheamh-mòr" in Scottish Gaelic (pronounced "clay-ev morr"), deriving into "clay more". On a side note, the Gaelic pronunciation of "claidheamh" actually sounds a lot like the English word "cleave". Rather fitting for an anti-cavalry weapon.

I think the term "Claymore" still fits. Why not? That's what the sword is culturally, and you can distinct the two with "claymore" and "basket-hilted claymore". Claymore is just the englishified word that means "large sword", isn't it? Well, the Claymore is a large sword. Not a greatsword, but certainly in the middleground between a longsword and a greatsword, and they were often heavier than longswords. Most people in history didn't use the terminology we do. They just called everything a sword.

Talking about the timelines, i imagine 2 headcannons, 1 Time traveling romans or WEEBS, imagine it they are all from the same period but when war exploded the crazy one decided to dress like ancient warriors and that explains why mosnt of them dont have propper armor or technique, they are just interpreting what they could form the history and manuals. now goign a but further, i would love to see what would happen if they add Inida or even america to the mix

you have to remember this game is not based on our universe but its own in this universe the Roman Empire disappeared but remnant groups survived of which cent and glad are a part of. in the For Honor universe general progression stagnated after a world wide cataclysm that shifted the continents together and caused a long war so yeah the game fails to fully explain it but that's ehat i could piece together

I like to think that For Honor takes place in an alternate timeline and that is why there are ancient Romans and whatnot all within the same time period.

That is actually the whole lore It is an alternate history where a great cataclysm happened that pretty much nearly destroyed the world Why do you think the japanese who during all of their history are in japan are now in the myre Cause the whole of japan sunk to the bottom of the ocean

Fun Fact: For Honor is actually a fantasy game, since it's not set in the real world and the warriors are just fantasy representation of historical ones or even mythology (shugoki is the Oni, Shaolin is Wukong). Saying that For Honor is unrealistic is like saying Mario is unrealistic since he can jump more than a normal plumber and shoot fireballs

I just came from you're lawbringer video and I have a small gripe about you're cape theory, wouldn't the weapon have to be razor sharp to cut clean through a loose hanging piece of fabric, if you're in a fight with more then just you and you're opponent meaning they have clashed with others probably dulling the weapon, so it would at least slow or stop a slash, although not a good stab

The sword looks huge cause highlander is the shortest male character in the game. Yeah, the sword is still massive but next to highlander its size is greatly exaggerated.

There is one blade that I prefer. The death pitch blade. It not only is thin but it has a distal taper. There is another blade that's like that but i don't remember the name. Since I abandoned for honor a bit ago since I can't play against higher up levels since I'm rep 15 and haven't played in a long time...

Fun fact: Viking women had more rights than women of later periods, even up to the 1900s. Like, they didn't have to remarry after their husbands death and claimed his possessions and land. They were allowed to divorce. They also knew how to fight, as someone had to train/protect the children. Enjoy
