I've been catheterized before not as a child but as young adult and I can tell you I don't care how old are tough you think you are it's traumatizing.. I hope they can figure out a way in the future to not have to use catheters or at least make them painless and less irritating.

I have had catheters many times and I am terrified and the lidocaine and distraction like a 3DS it would amaze you. They numbed my urethra for the last VCUG and I said did you even do anything? I couldn't feel that the catheter was there

I have to catherization everyday because I can't feel that my bladder is full and nobody is even trying to do any test and i have to stay in hospital until I can feel my bladder is full. As a 16 years old, catherization is so embarrassing no matter who's doing it. It's painful and they don't put numbing cream. I hope I can fix this problem one day

Wow how things have changed. When I was 7-8 I was drugged and held down by four adults and just had the catheter shoved up there. My mom could hear me screaming down the hall. It felt like a knife going in. Traumatizing as heck.

Elisabeth Andersen THE SAME DAMN THING HAPPENED TO ME! Except I was 3 YEARS OLD! Aaaaaand, to this day, I have PTSD, Medical Anxiety, etc etc. No lidocaine, no drugs, nothing. Held me down, shove, and I was traumatized the rest of my life. I also had to go through 2 years of PTSD therapy. The procedure that happened before this was a dye blood draw thing. And that gave me a IRREVERSIBLE PHOBIA of needles. THANKS TRAUMATIC MEDICAL HISTORY, IM SCARRED FOR LIFE!

Yep, same here. I was 4 years old and they said, "We're going to stick something up your pee pee". I said is it pinchy stuff? ( No clue why I said that) They laughed and said , no not pinchy. Well, I was screaming and crying from the excruciating pain. There were 5 people in the room and I too was held down. Petrified of catheters til this day.

I have to have a catheter for a surgery in a week and I'm so scared and nervous. I'm really self conscious as well and that just makes it worse!

Supper Fello 7046.32 the doctors said it hasn't got any worse not even by a fraction so they pushed my surgery back a year or I can phone up and ask for it.

I have had 3 urethra catheters and for this type of catheter you need to stay awake they never put you to sleep and I just got a new one put in my stumach but for that type I had to go to sleep because they need to open the tummy and bladder

When I had a catheter in, she opened my vagina up, and just dumped a bottle of numbing gel on it. My dad had to do it and it was SO uncomfortable
