the best way to not feel behind is to stop looking to the world for validation. Social Media and this constant GO Go fast pace lifestyle our modern world promotes perpetuates this sense of needing to keep pace with the most successful people in life. this is a sure path to suicide and or just depression. The fact is most people are self centered and always focused on themselves. No one will judge you for choosing your own path. Nobody cares and no one is watching. literally. People are too busy chasing their own personal goals and dreams. one should empty their mind like Bruce Lee and focus on their personal journey.

I've been landscaping for several years. It's not stressful, I paid off my entire home/land with this job. I like being outside at different places all the time. I save money from every check. It's warm almost all year here. People do not respect landscapers but other than that it's pretty much a tailor made job for me. Other jobs don't let you smoke and listen to music all day. I got an electrical degree but no....
@jorgen55013 жыл бұрын
That's what I do! Right now I do my own little job, so I can leave when I want and come when I want. Although I don't take advantage of that. I love being outside, and always felt that it wasn't good enough to live up to the typical standard (fast cars, big house, and so on) , but I make money that I'm comfortable with, and am healthy and I travel during the colder months. I'm glad you like it as well. Best of luck to you!

I do understand how you feel... Because I have the similar feeling when I stalk my friends or acquaintances in social media. many of them are married, some of them promoted as manager, some got their cute children and pretty wife and even some of them open their own company, I felt like I am far behind in life... ( -___- ) I understand the life that I admire, may not suitable to me. And my current life, can also be the target of many other people. Therefore, sometimes, I do ask myself " why am I so hesitate about other people's achievement? Why can't u treasure on what u have that many others unable to achieve? " A happy person isn't the one who owned so much, but the one who doesn't demand too much. This is the spirit that I have learnt. (-:

私の人生のモットーは ” Take a risk, that’s life” と ”Who cares?”

Self-love is difficult, especially when you feel isolated and alienated within your own culture. I've struggled with this my whole life and, ironically, I learned to love myself more when I travelled to and lived in Japan for five years. Now that I'm back in Canada, I've found myself constantly battling with other people's expectations for how I should be, act, and live my life, which is both frustrating as well as disappointing (particularly since North Americans love to promote the virtues of "freedom", "liberty", and "individuality" as fundamental human rights). But I can't focus on this hypocrisy or my fear of what others might say or do in reaction to how I choose to live my own life. At the end of the day, as you said, I need to learn to love myself and feel comfortable and confident with my own choices in order to find a lasting sense of happiness. And the journey to self-love and acceptance starts by undoing all the negative, pessimistic, self-defeating narratives I've kept on repeat in my head for all these years. Thank you for reminding me of this through your video. :)

I am going through a similar struggle and I am actually quite surprised to hear that this social expectancy culture is also quite a thing in North America. I have lived in Germany all my life and thought it was classical German or at least European thing. I guess I really fell for the superficial "freedom, liberty and individuality" propaganda in the US cultural media discussion.. what really helped me was the structured approach of ACT therapy, maybe you want to look at it? Russ Harris has nice books about it, as well as a few youtube videos.

I can tell you it's never too late to begin again! A man named Peter Drucker has written about the need for people to have 2-3 (or more) careers/jobs in a lifetime! Most people change & evolve--the person you are today isn't the same person you will be later. And life happens, too...it throws us events that demand our flexibility & creativity. Happens to ALL of us, at some point. It is a "given" that we need to adapt, because change is the one constant in the universe...whether we like it, or not! You might want to begin looking at your strengths & what you enjoy doing, for ideas. And meeting with a career counselor can be invaluable. Action is required on your part.

Comparison is the theif of joy 💯💯💯 it's a hard habit to break. I'm 31 years old, I don't make a huge salary. Still not married, but I am financially independent. The love I have for myself is unreal. Everyone sees it as arrogance but I genuinely am fully content with myself and my life choices. I'm still working on some personal goals to become the best version of myself. I can always learn more and become stronger. The challenges I do face are comparing myself to my clients and other women. I gotta stop that. We are all on our own journey. Being hard on yourself is literally bullying yourself. Not fun. Thank you for reminding me.

For those people who felt behind in life- you must truly define your purpose. Realize that you are a unique person with a unique mission. No one in this world is like you and there's no one will be exactly as you are. Let us appreciate our uniqueness or individuality no matter what your race, age, sex, gender, religion or ethnicity is.

Loving your self is the first step to happiness and when it rains believe that all things are either a lesson or a blessing. We are all human and learning the unknown can make us stronger and make the unknown into the known and how to handle the situation with positivity and experience. The people who became successful started with a goal and goal setting is really important in having something to strive for. We are raised to believe that success is measured by the job we have or the car we drive or the house we own. But to me success is measured by the size of the smile you have on your face each day. Known you are living your best life because we only have one life so it needs to be a happy one and you are being the best version of you that you can be.

I thought they would be proud of how far I`ve come despite of all the sh*t I`ve been through (living overseas alone for 5 years). All my life I`ve been living by other people`s standards and one thing that I`ve always been scared of is failing and disappointing my family... As someone with severe life long social anxiety, I too am pressured to live what is considered to be a “successful” life. Even the basics of simply holding an okay paying job and friendships are incredibly difficult. Constantly being in a state of alienation from most people I encounter. And the feeling I have to be like everyone else (especially extravagantly) to be happy. I’m struggling to find a place I belong and the general encouraged mentality of “you need to keep fighting to be happy and successful some day” ironically makes that worse when it comes to pressure. I just want to say thank you for making these videos on your perspective. Seeing someone who is aware and questioning our fast paced way of life and finding happiness through pure simplicity is incredibly hopeful. It’s wonderful that you’re sharing this and it’s a positive impact for anyone in whichever walk of life they’re in.

Thank you so much for watching this video and your meaningful comment :) To me, everyone's preference on how we want to live our lives should be up to each individual and hence, it's ok to desire to live in a fast paced world if that's what you like but it's also ok to want a slow paced life style. I believe we should be free to find whatever works for us and no one should be judged by how we choose to live our lives!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! For me, the best lesson I encountered in this video is to learn to love yourself for who you are. And,there arè times that we may push are selves to achive our goals. But we will realize that we are doing is not really something for ourself, but rather for those people around us (friends, family, etc). We do things so that people will accept us. And by doing so, we are exhausting, and hurting ourselves. Thus, true freedom and peace of mind will come when we learn to accept, and to love ourselves. When we become true. Self love wins. :D Also, hahaha social media is toxic. We should really be careful on who to follow, what to see or watch or what to read.

4:11 this is the problem with social media in general, ultimately it is just surface it doesn't give you insight to the person at a deeper level. Most people are addicted to it because it is ultimately unsatisfying just like junk food. For instance why do so many people smile on instagram? Is it genuine or just to get more likes? Although I still use it a little bit thesedays in NZ i don't post anything and feel much better when I converse face to face than through text or other social media. Society is definately going in the wrong direction of avoiding face to face interaction.

Omg, you are so on point when u mentioned that your culture or in my case, my upbringing, is to be deemed selfish if I think for myself before others. I am experiencing this struggle currently to learn more about self love. At times I punish myself subconsciously when I felt the guilt of not being able to please others or their expectations. Eventually, it pulls me down and allowed me to become this person with very low self-esteem and it is depressing. I am trying to pull myself out from all these negative mindset and it really isn't easy because that's how my life has been structured from at a very young age. Kudos to you if you've managed to turn things around for yourself alright. As for me, I'm trying to boost my self-confidence through doing things that I like/love and staying away from negativities as much as possible both internally and externally. At times I may be drawn back to those negative mindset then I had to try to climb out of it again and again. It's tiring but I have to do it. 😕 Thank you very much for this video, Sena 🙃✌

Sena, I see you as being ahead in your life, not behind. I used to teach English and American Sign Language to Deaf Japanese in Tokyo and Okinawa and saw that many of the deaf Japanese were unhappy with their lives. I encouraged a few of them to attend community college in California and they followed my advice. After they spent a year here in California, it seems that they realized they have the freedom to choose to be who they want to be instead of worrying about what other people would think of them. It is easier to be deaf in California than in Japan due to Americans with Disability Act and societal acceptance of deaf people here in the Bay Area.

I used to live in Japan years ago and I just want to say. I love success in the traditional and non traditional sense. I am in a good place in my life to say so moderately and humbly, but I love how there’s another side of the coin where you are teaching simplicity. I can buy a $60,000 luxury car but I understand it will not bring me more happiness I rather own the $15,000-20,000 car that’s still cool and budget friendly for me. I understand that everything I do is just for me and not the acceptance of others it just happens to be that most times what I like, others envy in the end product. But they never see or care about the whole picture they only enjoy end products to see.

You're so lucky to have learned these lessons so young in life. I've just turned 50, and only learnt some lessons over the last year or so. You're such a lovely person. Keep spreading your message - you're helping so many xxx

Everyone has different conditions in their life, its not to late to change things or change perspective. I think its important that you love yourself first and then you can give of yourself to others. And remember that if you do your best and be the best you you can be in your situation-your good enough and dont has to be someone else but you. Thanks for such good videos💖

Learning to love one self is a first step to happiness. Dealing with life in the corporate world is another thing altogether. In Japan is especially difficult stressfull and very demanding.

Thank you Sena. You have such a calm and insightful presence in your videos. This is a common problem in society that we always compare ourselves to others. Like someone once said "Comparison is the thief of joy".

It feels like you posted this video right as I needed it. I’ve been feeling behind and out of place since I graduated from university last semester, and now I’m starting to realize I may have been being too hard on myself and too negative. I guess I’m still learning to love myself as well.

Found your channel by accident and became really interested in your thoughts and experiences. As a fellow INFJ, it’s quite refreshing to find another person with similar interests, philosophies and quirks. Almost feels like listening to an old friend talk in a way! I’ve been quietly following your journey since your New Zealand days til now and definitely noticed the subtle shift in the style of content that you produce. Just want to say, keep up the good work and happy belated birthday Sena! :)

Sena, I love your videos. You are very creative, thoughtful, and insightful, always getting to the deeper meaning of life and society. It is clear that each video requires enormous effort to plan, film, and edit the resulting piece in an enjoyable experience for us watching. Thank you so much for all you do, you have more impact on others than you can imagine.

Love yourself means giving more time to appreciate what those surroundings that bring along with joy in the now, and with hope in the now too, forgetting pressure what the past had never help us move forward, except more stress that heaviness or burnout are increases each day. Love yourself helps us ourselves 'clear to see' inner self deeper, and we begin to see our life in different dimension as well. I like your insights about how your 'boring' life turns into 'adventurous to more fruitful' way. Thank you. Yeah!

Hey, Sena! I comment here for the first time. I wanted to watch this video 15 years ago! lol I changed my career to a consultant about 5 years ago from an accountant and now I am already 46. So, I really feel behind in my life but cannot change my career/life to another one that I really want to do. Mortgage, living life, savings for retirement.... Anyways, I am still looking for things that I will be able to get it over. Weight training is one of them. haha. これからも楽しみしています^^

This is happening to me recently. I'm in my senior year of university and seeing some of my friends are going to graduate soon while im still stuck on my final work. My current job seems not suitable for me. I was worrying myself so much that I couldnt even watch some Yt videos for days :D This morning i found a quote "Where comparison ends, personality begins". It slaps me as I finally realize "I wasnt being me these days". The quote, and now this video, make me feel much better. :) Never compare yourself with others. Everyone is unique, including you. You will get your own thing.

Such a helpful perspective and you're talking about comparison which is something I was actually planning on writing about myself tonight! Nice coincidence! Comparison throughout my life has led me down a path of never feeling fulfilled - it's gone too far in a negative direction. Also, side note: awesome triceps man! Nice work.
