I don't have children and often wonder what I'm going to do without someone to look after me when I'm older. I'm 58 now. I have four siblings who are older than me and two nephew's. I know I won't be able to count on any of them to ensure I am taken care of once I reach the point of not being able to care for myself. It's daunting to think about.

Morning Granny,🌞 Love your poem, I remember as I grew older, to go visit my many Aunts and Uncles, because they had so much to offer me. They loved it when I visited, but I came home with so much more knowledge from them. Especially loved my Grandmother, she and Grandpa were Italian and traveled from Italy to the USA for a better life. I remember how she did so many things (making bread, pasta, and sauce all by hand) washing (on a scrub board) shopping (grocery store around the corner) canning, and caring for the chickens, while raising 9 children. She was fun to be around, always smiling and hugging us so tight. We complain that we lack time for visiting them with all the conveniences we have today. Shame on us. She loved talking about her and Grandpa as they raised their family. She loved God and prayed and went to church every day. She lived to be 88. I hope my children will continue to respect and honor me (and they do) having no regrets as my days here on Earth are dwindling. I'm 81. Blessings, from Jersey Ann from NJ 🥰😙

Granny … I am so grateful to have a wonderful family that care about us as we are aging and can’t do so many things that we used to do without even thinking about it. But there are a some people I know that are not so fortunate to have anyone to help them. And it is hard for us to ask for help when we age or can’t afford to pay someone for help..I hope your words today will touch some hearts to just take a few minutes to see if you can help an elderly neighbor or relative or even just to give them 10 minutes of your time to say hello and a little visit. You would be surprised how much those 10 minutes mean to them 😇❤

My mom passed away not too long ago and some siblings were not very involved with her care while she was alive. When she passed away and I had to handle her estate suddenly everyone was micromanaging everything she told me she wanted done but they didn’t bother helping her when she was here. That was upsetting. Take care ❤ and have a great day!

Granny, I've been the nursing home route with both my dad and stepdad, and now my mom in assisted living. I'm your age so I know exactly what you are talking about. I would visit my dad and stepdad on Tuesday and Thursday. There were so many whose family dumped them their and forgot about them. When I visited, I always tried to stop and talk a few minutes with those who never got visits. I became so friendly with some of them that they would ask for hugs .I cherished those hugs as much as they did. If for any reason I had to change one of the days I visited, they would all be asking my dad why I had not come on that day, but I would try to go on an alternate day ,and let my dad know ahead of time It meant so much to my dad also that I gave a bit of time to his friends. I obtained permission from the facility to give my dad birthday parties so all his friends on his wing could attend. The facility was very accommodating and set up a time where it didn't interfere with their mealtime, brought us ice chests of ice, and allowed me to decorate a little. This made my dad so happy, because he had always been a person who loved giving to others , whether it was his time, vegetables from his garden ,or brownies and fudge he made solely for the purpose of giving it away. By allowing him to share his cake and punch with others, gave him a bit of that pleasure. My stepdad, was end stage Alzheimer's so he didn't enjoy crowds, but I would always bring him a cake that he could share with his roommate, aids and nurses. He always knew my mom and I until he passed which is unusual for end stage Alzheimer's. I was blessed to have them both, well into their 90's.Mom is now almost 92.She is in assisted living recently. Her facility has a large activities room, where we can hold parties and family gatherings. Please people, make to time to spend with your loved ones when they age, and make good memories. You will cherish those memories when you can no longer visit with them in the physical .It is well worth the time and effort it takes. You will never regret the time spent with them, only the time you didn't.

By the grace of God, I get around pretty good and still stay so busy working around my house yard and etcetera however, my family lives an hour and 3 hours respectfully for each adult child that is and I have five grandchildren that I miss so much mostly all teenagers except one eight year old. Now when I lived closer I saw them all the time but now that we have such distance the only time I see them is when I go there and it sure makes me lonely for them.
