Michael Morpurgo was inspired to write his acclaimed novel, 'Private Peaceful', when his wife saw the name engraved on a headstone in the Commonwealth War Graves cemetery at Bedford House near Ypres. After publication, the family of the real Private Peaceful got in touch with Michael and revealed that his name should have been spelt with two 'L's. This year the CWGC engraved a new headstone on a brand new batch of Portland stone and it was unveiled at a moving cemetery at Bedford House.
