A taster of the latest video from Neville Grove. It recreates a lost world, where realistically weathered steam locos, with real sound, chuff their way through a stunning model landscape. The video shows locomotives and trains of all kinds - including a realistic sequence of a train being 'banked' up a gradient. Click through on the link at the end for ten minutes of pure escapism.

It's the synchronised sound that makes these videos so good. I don't like to see sound-fitted models because they're never convincing, but these sound effects are from real trains, not simulators, and the difference is night and day.

LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A MODEL RAILWAY. NOT SURE WHAT PART LOOKED REALISTIC. MAYBE THE SOUND EFFECTS BUT A BLIND MAN ON A ROCKING HORSE COULD TELL THAT WAS A MODEL RAILWAY SO STOP TITLE BAITING

Actually, pay attention to the inertia of the rail cars and train as it slowed; that part was very, very well done. Model trains have a very difficult time simulating the slow, lumbering acceleration or deceleration of the real thing, no matter if we're dealing with steam or diesel, North American or UK. The massive size and weight of the real thing as it slowly changes speed is difficult to replicate. With most model railways, the rapid and smooth acceleration and braking looks unnatural. This was very good.

@@mef2101 It is very good, but the poster invites criticism with his clickbait title. "Is it the most realistic ever?" No, it's not. It's using tension lock couplers. Half the track is unballasted. The sound effects of the first shot of the 8F are for a locomotive moving at half the speed (two "chuffs" per wheel rotation when there should be four, as you hear in the banking scene).

Nice models but, come on. Don't show us videos of unballasted track and claim it's "the most realistic ever". The 8F at 0:22 is making two "chuffs" per rotation of the wheels, when it should be making four (it has two cylinders, each of which exhausts twice per rotation) as it does in the banking scene. Prominent tension-lock couplers at 0:32 and 0:47. And, no, I wouldn't have mentioned any of that if you hadn't invited it with the clickbait title.
