We took these beauties for granted in the 70's, they were everywhere

Damn how I miss the 70s! God I Loved driving those big cars with the big flat seats! Had my lady sitting right next to me, one hand on the wheel and my right arm around her!!!! Just driving up and down Franklin Street and onto 94 to Chicago...

Car brings back a lot of memories. My mom had a 1976 Chrysler New Yorker Brogham when I was a kid. It was black with black vinyl roof burgundy velour seats red pinstripe loved that car. Everyone would have to look twice when they see her getting out of it because she was only 4'11 for a big car lol it was her baby & she drove it better a man would lol. It had power seat so she was able to get it up to the dashboard and up as high as it could go lol. Love to own 1 one day

Very impressive condition! Fantastic color combo as well! Have always liked these last of the big Chrysler's. After 78 nothing was quite the same. Would love to own this car!

I had one of these, a 1976. Same exterior color but with dark blue leather rather than velour. Big 440 with a gargantuan Quadra Jet carb and put out only 180 or so horsepower. That didnt stop it from getting 7 MPG in town or a fuel sipping 10 *maybe* on the freeway. Wat a tank. I love it. Oh, and I had some jazzy Chrysler aluminum rims, not hubcaps.
@johneckert136510 ай бұрын
It should've had a Carter Thermoquad carburetor, unless someone robbed a Rochester Quadrajet off of some GM product. Chrysler did use a few Quadrajets, but not until the 80's. I think those smog 440 were rated at 210 HP :(

Ford must've had a bunch of parts left over and had to use them up by producing that 1 last big car in 79.

So tired of that phrase "Malaise Era" Nobody bought these cars to race. Each car had their own individuality and beauty,and character, something that seriously lacks in today's world where you can park a Kia next to a BMW and not be able to differentiate between them from afar. This is a beautiful automobile you have.
@davidallen57769 ай бұрын
I've had it with that phrase myself. And, if anything, I've long since preferred these land yachts over any of the Toyotas, Nissans and Mazdas of the world!!😊

This car was in a class of her own! And with a meticulous mechanic you would get 10 mpg in the city and 18 mpg highway, however if you were sloppy with maintenance you wouldn't get the gas mileage she could get.........😂 I had 77 continental 460 big block she got 15 highway 11mpg city Had a 73 buick Electra 455 big block similar mpg..........however had a chevy caprice small block 400 15mpg.....😂 .......all of which were meticulously tuned 🤔 Thats why i changed to Ford because no other car manufacturers can compete with Fords fuel mileage 25 mpg highway on there small blocks...... Suv that can achieve 19mpg EAT YOUR HEART OUT GARBAGE MOTORS

... still afraid of the "lean-burn" engines ...
@somewhereinthecity2 жыл бұрын
It's not so much a lean burn engine as it is a lean burn carburetor. This seems to be working okay, but it's really not that big of a deal to replace it. All you got to do is pop in a Holley Street Demon or something like that.
@johneckert13652 жыл бұрын
@@somewhereinthecity Actually the Lean Burn system was more about ignition timing. To eliminate it, yes a better carburetor is preferred, but a normal Chrysler electronic ignition system from a 72-76 should be used. Or a 71-down points type distributor.
@MichaelForkin Жыл бұрын
Still got it? Mike in Montana.
@johneckert136510 ай бұрын
VERY easy solution. Convert it back to the previous 72-up Chrysler Electronic Ignition, and either richen up that Thermoquad, or find a conservative aftermarket spreadbore carburetor. Even a Rochester Quadrajet from a GM product would be an improvement.
