Oh my, this has to be one of the two most beautiful personal homes you've ever shown! The graceful elegance, symmetry and restraint in colour, as well as the lovely gardens truly sets it apart. I'm happy that it's being sold furnished, because whoever decorated it has an impeccable eye for colour and shape, so everything is in harmony with the building. No awful, modernised kitchen; no ghastly, overstuffed, too-bright sofas, or beds from the wrong time period... Just perfect. ❤

You said it all when you said no Gastly modernized kitchen because after you've seen some of the homes out there that have that you see why they're so Gastly. This one has a newer ice box which is understandable but there's such a thing as antique ice boxes where they have like six doors! Yes, somewhere along the line I picked up ice box instead of refrigerator lol!

As a Louisiana native, I definitely see and feel exactly what you are talking about with the unique fusions of styles in this house. Louisiana is definitely known for our fusion of architectural styles in a specific way that is unique to our state. The house has definitely been beautifully restored, and I appreciate the attention to detail trying to keep it as close to historically accurate as possible. Since it is a former plantation, I’d love to see whoever buys it turn it into something similar to what Whitney Plantation has done so that it is both respectful to the history of the former enslaved people who worked this plantation, but also allowed the public to get a better understanding of this house, and all that it has gone through over the years. Thank you for the tour, and for sharing some of its historical facts!

Glad you mentioned the Reconstruction period, the devastation of the Boll Weevil, and the Great Depression. With the South bearing the burden of its war fought mostly on its territory, the entire South bore that burden for well over 100 years. The impact of the pest on the cotton crops and the dramatic change in how agriculture changed from slave labor to poor sharecroppers in addition to events such as the Great War, the Spanish flu, the flooding of the Mississippi River, the Great Depression...the South nearly crumbled under all these things. And many grand homes like this went under. It's quite amazing to see such a grand beauty. Thank you for sharing.

I’m thinking, the older I get and seeing how corrupt the media is, that we may not know what really happened as the south probably didn’t get to tell their full side of the story- or at least the story is weighted towards the ‘winners’ who wrote it in the history books instead of explaining the complexity that took place during that whole debacle- people had allegiance to their own state , leaders in their state etc. it wasn’t just the issues at hand.

I can imagine that front room lit with candles, windows open to the night, with elegantly dressed men and women dancing reels down the center. The layout is so interesting! Thank you for pointing out the special features. I agree that the kitchen is wonderful...I usually cringe at something, but this was perfect. I love that the 'parquet' floor was painted on wood. Also exciting is the furniture! It's rare (especially here in CA) to see so many Antebellum pieces instead of the ornate High Victorian. The understated style and harmony of the colors just sings. I too hope the right person will steward this lovely home into the future. This one is a winner!

Hello. I love your videos. However, I worked as a glass artist for many years, and I wanted to let you know that the “frosted glass” that you are showing is actually “glue chipped glass”. Its name comes from the process used to make it-a special hide glue is spread over the sheet of glass. As the glue cools and dries, it contracts and literally chips the glass to cause the pattern. Please keep these glorious videos coming!

This home literally leaves me breathless! I was thinking how much I would want most all of the decorations and furniture-I can’t believe someone would collect furnishings like that only to leave behind, but maybe they’re moving to a completely different architectural style. Whoever purchases this home will have a treasure that hopefully will still be here nearly 200 years from now.

And that kitchen is to me how an old period kitchen should be just refreshing to see that, although not original to the house, it wasnt all modernized - it would have been nice to see that carried over to the rest of the bouse's modernized areas ( upstairs bathrooms & the hallway kitchenette type area ), but still an immaculate & beautiful home that was obviously lovingly restored & cared for

Do you know how long the restoration of this mansion took? It is so amazingly beautiful. That kitchen is amazing! As we all know, the original kitchens were usually in a separate structure away from the house, with maybe a breezeway running between the two to keep the heat and smoke out of the house, and to keep it from catching the house on fire. In the 1800s, there still may have been a fireplace in the original kitchen, but more likely wood stoves.

There is a dynamism to this home and property (both back and front). Initial exterior shots had me very excited. There's foundational wit and intelligence to the handling of the kitchen (great floor, and some marvelous pieces). One can add even greater vibrancy and fluidity within the space combining some of the better, more exciting period pieces of furniture already there, with other marvelous, high quality pieces from almost any other period. The key would be consistency of intelligence, texture - a sharp and sensitive vision, as well - a substantial budget, and ability to buy the best.. -Place is presently, vibrantly beautiful, COULD BE absolute electric poetry.
