Glad you had the vision, I would have burned it down, it was so disgusting. Very cute.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin, am 70 yrs old with medieval history my background, but I have so loved your really intriguing, highly informative and organized lecture. You are an excellent lecturer!!!! I've read whatever southern diaries I can get my hands on. I find them fascinating! Thank you so much for this!

I can't help but think how the greed & wealth of opulence was built upon the backs of hundreds of slaves. Nutt was a Union sympathizer but owned people against their will to make his wealth. 😢

Thank you! Mary Chestnut is my first cousin 4x removed. Maybe explains my fascination with the south. I live in Oklahoma, but my dad was born in Florida, so all our family vacations were road trips through the south, before interstate highways, so we drove past the remaining grand homes along the way. My dad's family came from South Carolina and had a plantation on the Catawba River. I think it was called Belair. I often think of Dad's Ggg grandmother, Sarah White. She lost 3 husbands and continued to manage a plantation on her own until the war. I think Margaret Mitchell did an excellent job of describing Ellen in GWTW. Fits your description to a T. Jan

Wow! Richmond truly is beautiful and so much history, architecture, family treasures etc. I hope Richmond remain preserved with all it's contents, family heirlooms, history, architecture etc. as it is for future generations to come. Thanks for showing us this gem in Natchez and of course all the other old homes .

Oh my goodness, the photo of her seated aunt serving tea or coffee at the end of table flooded my mind with memories of my grandmother, her friends, and even my mother and her friends in my youngest years. Such was common at special events in our family home when I was a young child!

Very interesting talk. Thank you from Ireland 🇮🇪. The first slaves in the southern states in America were Irish. The English subjustated the Irish when they were defeated by Cromwell. He transported men, women and children to America. We have never forgotten English cruelty.

Wow! As a child of Great Grandparents (and further back) who were plantation owners, who went from that to share-croppers in the same generation , this is so real and poignant.
