I loved this story, it’s exactly the kind of movie I like: People dealing with Life the best they can, reaching-out to Others with love and compassion - and/or reaching back, in hope and the longing for acceptance and connection. Thank-You for choosing (and uploading) the classic-films You do, so many are gems I would never have seen!!☺️🙌❤️

The beautiful Cathy Downs and Paul Langton in a dramatic story of hopelessness, romance and redemption. Downs' innocence, Langton's understated hopelessness and redemption and sincere love for her is very moving in this movie. Cast terrific also with the old woman seeing the good in Langton and taking him in as a son. Remarkable. Like I often say, I am a sucker for a good romance and that one had some power to it, "for you I die," he finally admits trying in every way to keep her protected and uninvolved with him. Some very dark moments as well, all very well done, dark, hopeless, ruinous, contrasted to the goodness of the family despite its flawed elements and Cathy's falling full for the good she sees in him Great stuff. Thx PF

Also, I've read Betty Hutton, who was amazingly talented, quit her career early because of the way she was treated. Hollywood has been known for sexual abuses. When I see people treating these movies like they were handed down by the gods it makes me want to slap someone. Hollywood people are first, in it for money, and second are in general, godless creeps!

I really enjoyed this movie. It has a good story, but the scenes with the Russian guy and his wife were hokey and too long. He and his wife were there to contrast the convicts view of life that only money has any value. Actually you only NEED enough to provide food, a roof over your head and to pay your bills. Which is what the Russian couple had . And each other. Anyone who wants more can build on that. So No, Not Hokey at all.
