TMT #9: How To Change Your Guitar Strings

in this TMT, i give you some tips and tricks on how to change out your old guitar strings for some nice new ones! hopefully you find this video helpful in some way. :)
this is an important skill to learn if you're planning on playing your guitar long term, because the quality of your guitar strings makes a difference in how your guitar sounds.

The order in which the strings are replaced is actually very important. If the strings are taken off from high to low, the tension of the strings only has an effect on the one side of the neck, which can cause the neck to warp and twist. It's recommended to replace the strings from the outside to the middle ones, keeping the tension equal and spread over the neck. I was unfortunate enough to learn this the hard way. I had a Gibson Hummingbird which cost about two thousand pounds (British money), so I was obviously devastated when this happened.

It's also good to experiment with different string compositions. my first guitar was an El cheapo with basic steel strings. On a whim, I changed to phosphor bronze strings, and it was like an entirely new and better guitar.

Please don't remove all of your strings at once. It weakens the neck and can cause it to break. Rather remove 2 string, clean that part of the neck and then put the 2 new strings back on. Repeat that 3 times.

That's also a perfectly fine way to restring! :) I had this question myself, because I've always removed all the strings at the same time and never realized it might warp the neck, but after a lot of research, a visit to a few different guitar shops, and consulting with various hobbyists and experts alike, the consensus was that it's actually fine to remove all the strings at once, as long as you loosen them first. The biggest issue you might come across is having your bridge fall out if it's not attached, since the strings are what hold it in place. But everyone I spoke to who's been playing for a long time and would be considered an "expert" said its okay. Of course, every guitar is different and yours might have been made differently! So if the 2 string method works for you, then great! Thanks for watching!
