I recommend covering the sound hole while you're using the steel wool to prevent shavings from getting inside, especially if you have electronics.

great advice!! for my martin, which is an acoustic-electric, i really should have covered the sound hole. i had plans to, but couldn't find any masking tape that wouldn't harm the wood on my guitar so decided to just film the video without it. but yes, i agree with you - covering the sound hole is always a good idea! thanks for sharing!

I tried to clean my guitar with alcohol for some reason ( idk quarantine is getting to me), needless to say it didn’t go well 😂😂 this could have saved my guitar a couple weeks ago

Huh, well since I don't play my guitar that often at the moment I keep it inside my bag, so it helps to prevent the dust settling on it, but I should really clean it now that I'm going to get new strings on it

you are very responsible lol! i should keep mine in a case when i'm not playing them either but i just never do because i like them to be available next to my desk if the desire to play hits me. but keeping them tucked away in a case is definitely good for keeping the dust away!

@@for3v3rfaithful haha, well I used to have my guitar on a stand openly presented in my room for a long time for the very same reasons. And I did play my guitar a lot more back then, but since I reorganised my room I don't have the space to display it safely. But I do like to keep my guitar safe :)

Been waiting for a video like this for a while. That Taylor looks so gorgeous! Very helpful video but I got this one doubt. Can I use the same oils on a nato fretboard? Or are there specific oils for specific woods?

i'll be honest - there's a lot of conflicting information on the internet and on guitar forums and blogs, etc. about what to use on the fretboard. i don't personally have any experience with a nato fretboard but i would definitely check with a professional before trying anything new! something like the dr duck's axe wax is gentle enough that it could be used on the whole guitar for cleaning, including the fretboard, but again i would do some research first. sorry i don't have anything more helpful to say! :(

Are these ebony fretboards? What about rosewood fretboards? I scratched up my rosewood fretboard while polishing my frets with 0000 steel wool.

yes, both of my acoustic guitars have ebony fretboards, but the electric is rosewood as well. to be honest, i've only ever used steel wool on my acoustics and haven't seen any scratches, but for the electric i might try a plastic razor blade or old credit card or something instead. you might also want to try the toothbrush method next time too because it's less abrasive than the steel wool. rosewood fretboards are usually untreated so that's probably a factor in why yours was scratched. use a conditioner after cleaning so you can rehydrate the wood and that should also reduce the appearance of scratches.

since there's a big debate online about what you should and shouldn't use to condition your fretboard, i would stick with products that have lots of positive reviews. the f-one oil that i used seems pretty reputable, but if you want to try something else, i would just make sure other people have said it's okay. i would definitely not use the steel wool on your fretboard until you have a conditioner to use after it though!

i've always preferred d'addario brand strings because that's just what was given to me when i first got my guitar. 🤗

@@for3v3rfaithful I see... I have 2 more questions, (1)I read that when changing strings depending on the guitar you have to adjust the 'truss rod' for the new strings. (2) Do I have to adjust my truss rod if I'm changing from a 12-53 string to a 11-52? (D'addario strings) Thanks for the feedback and keep it up. 🙂
