Foraging and Cooking MASSIVE Golden California Chanterelles (Cantharellus californicus) in Sonoma

These are easily the largest Chanterelles I’ve ever seen, what an gorgeous chonky mushroom! Under ideal conditions they can grow for weeks on end, reaching gargantuan proportions like this one. Copious amounts of rain and a solid layer of duff protecting this from getting washed out allowed this specimen to reach such an impressive size. #Cantharelluscalifornicus grows in association with oak trees during the wet season. Wow, what a find!

I live in Sonoma County part time a d Mendocino part time so thank you for showing us habitat they like. I found some California Golden chanterrelles thus week for the first time! They're above the duff and can see from a long distance. They were delicious but only weighed a 1/4 lb. You are the man!

I would be very careful, unfortunately Urushiol is heat stable
