Feels like it’s been a while? I’m always trimming off the Nikau flower from our property’s tree so I’ll harvest a pod next time. I eat a lot of Kareo & Hen & Chicken on my hiking adventures but it’s interesting to add more plants to the knowledge menu, thanks 👏👏👏

are there any edible roots or tubers that you can find? something with more calories?
@KeepingItWild2 жыл бұрын
Not a lot of that type of thing thats native to nz. You can eat some of the orchid tubers that are like potatoes apparently, but its more of an emergency food because it sets the orchids back for years. Bracken ferns roots were eaten a lot in the past but they wear your teeth out and not the best for ya. The best calorie survival food is probably Mamaku because its available all year. Not sure of caloric breakdown though

I always really love your video’s! It looks like such a wonderful place to live and way of life. It’s a bit of a shame to see you move your best content over to Patrion Although if it’s working for you I’m happy to think you may be able to make a living out of it. I’d consider helping to support you but at $11 a month that’s what a streaming service costs and they’re bringing 1000x more content. Even Curiosity stream with Nebula is only $25 a year. They have very similar style of content. You definitely have a lot to bring to the table but might want to reconsider the cost of your content. Anyway I’m not trying to bring you down I’m just giving you some perspective from a person who can afford to have multiple streaming services which I only watch a few shows on each but justifying $11 a month on day max 200 clips from you is very hard to justify.
@KeepingItWild2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate, I can see what your saying. The difference is Netflix and the like are global and mainstream so they can make it work with millions of customers i guess. Our content is pretty niche, and our course if even more niche because it only really appeals to people in NZ who want to learn how to navigate and work in the bush, harvest wild food for their families, and learn more in depth native plant info specific only to NZ which is not available anywhere else in videos or books. If you live in Australia i can see you probably wouldn’t get the value out of it, so fair enough. I think Its a small group who are interested in that, most successful online courses are over $200 for a one off cost. I don’t expect everyone to pay $11 every month, if it was me I’d watch it all then cancel and then pay for another month later down the track to catch up on new vids. For me when i was starting out living in the bush a course like this would have saved me $thousands in knowing the better gear to buy and the plant and animal knowledge which would have made my trapping work a lot more profitable from the start. But thats where it depends who you are and what ur doing as to weather its worth if for you, cheers 😊
@MTBingAndrew2 жыл бұрын
@@KeepingItWild that totally makes sense. I think next time I get stuck home sick in bed I’ll have myself a “Keeping it wild” binge! Even though the info doesn’t apply to me in Australia I still really enjoy watching it, reminds me of the old “bush tucker man” show from the 90’s plus NZ is so bloody beautiful definitely one of the best places in the world. I’ve also found kiwi’s such lovely people.
@bush600r22 жыл бұрын
@@KeepingItWild Your 100% correct, you charge what ever you feel cause at the end of the day you have put in the hard work and learned these things over time and effort, it's not something you learn in 5 mins. I think it's cheap anyhow. Love your videos mate and I will more than likely purchase some patron videos of yours in the future as I feel I can learn alot too and think they would be worth every cent. Keep up the great work👍
