Nothing can compete with a Winberry pie - beats blueberries by a mile. Luckily I live on the side of a valley and our moorland is full of them. One of my fondest childhood memories is picking them with my mother 👌

I love bilberries. We used to pick them on the moors around Bacup when we stayed with my Granny in the summer holidays. Bilberry pie!
@danyoutube74912 жыл бұрын
I've never had bilberries (actually I might have had them in the occasional restaurant fruit pudding or a jar of jam), and hadn't imagined what they would look like or where they might grow. It certainly wouldn't occur to me that they would grow on the moors, I don't associate moors with juicy fruit :) They do indeed look very similar to blueberries, one of my favourite fruits, so to hear that they are possibly even tastier whets my appetite. Perhaps I need a miniature moorland in my garden, with mounds of acidic soil for bilberries and rowan trees... :)

I have a question regarding foraging on the Bristol channel. I live close to the River Severn and am aware of the multiple nuclear power stations on its banks. Could you speak to my concerns around bio accumulation of radiation? I lov your content and very much appreciate what you document.
@ben_5e42 жыл бұрын
They emit very little radiation so I wouldn't worry about that if I were you however if there are power stations, refinery's, heavy industry or busy shipping lanes nearby you should be careful as heavy metals can build up in the area.
@christophergenther35172 жыл бұрын
Coal mines are more radioactive than nuclear power plants, so unless that would concern you too, its nothing to worry about

Good video but , you should be aware that when picking winberries especially in the brecons that " sheep winberries " grow among the genuine ones , these are poisoness and should be avoided at all cost! They are smaller and darker with lots of tiny white points at one end . PLEASE AMEND THIS VLOG INCLUDING THIS INFO ! Keep the videos coming pal , best regards to thee and thine : )

Hi Patrick. I’ve checked all my resources and none of them mention a sheep winberry or anything toxic of that sort, and no information on them on the internet. As above could you provide a latin binomial of the species, thanks :)

@@UKWILDCRAFTS I've only ever seen them on the Blorenge mountain overlooking Abergavenny , and I only know them as ' sheep winberries ' . They're smaller and darker but that's the only name I have for them . I will try to find out though.

hi again :) wondering if it is safe to forage by the roadside? i've been told different information from different foragers but would love to know your opinion!
@chrissywales65753 ай бұрын
If it's quite a busy road, then there will be a lot of nasty things absorbed into the plant. This is unfortunate for me as the only elderberry tree I know of local to me is on a busy main road.
