The pennywort looked interesting. Partly because it's a "safe" plant to forage. Don't remember seeing it anywhere here but I'm not on the coast. Sold here for ponds and fishtanks. Maybe I'll look for it at my local pet store and grow it in pot of water. Hello from rainy Corvallis Oregon.

I get a wonderful crop of Jelly Ears every year in January in a place near me. Word of warning, when cooking - expect it to behave like popcorn ! When frying it, you have to have one hand on a pot lid covering it, otherwise the stuff will fly across the room and splatter your face with burning oil. Jelly Ears have been a source of knowledge for me because I never knew how to identify Elder Trees before, and also I never knew anything about how to cook a stir fry, but now I do because of Jelly Ears.

I buy those wood ears (dried) from my local Chinese shop. A good, flexible (pun part intended) mushroom. Soy is a good addition. I see them wild a lot, but still don't pick them yet, I don't want to get it wrong with 'shrooms, or indeed, some very innocent looking green leaves that could be the "wrong one." Thanks for your lovely vids. 👍

I really look forward to these videos and appreciated the basket of good food you had collected by the end of this one. The lockdowns caused a lot of dental suffering; I had an infected, abscessed tooth during this time so can sympathise (was told only go to the dentist "if there's pus and blood".) I wish I'd known about the use of wood avens root then.

Propolis tincture is brilliant for a dental abscess if you have open access via a cavity in the tooth, or if it is a 'gum boil'. Overnight the abscess disappears. If there is no access and is applied to the gum around the affected tooth it takes longer to have an effect . It can also be used, if gargled , to stop ear ache and sore throat. I have also used it on an infected thumb wound. Info on scientific studies can be obtained on PubMed.

My wisdom tooth splintered when it erupted. It was searing agony - kept cutting into my cheek! They're totally unnecessary. Having them all extracted was the best decision I made! Have you ever tried Vietnamese-style spring rolls? Me and my partner are obsessed with them. They're my main reason for foraging wood ear mushrooms, as they, and shiitakes, go really well in them. I'll try wood avens root instead of clove in a Pho broth next time I make it. ;)

Exceptional and your humanity shows. Bty The Jews ears I cut in thin slices with kitchen sissors to fry and yes they do jump out if the pan. Very prized by the Chinese. The origional name come to find out is not related to the Elder Tree folklore, but the old Eng word for 'Jaw'. Same root word for Jews Harp, mouth harp.
