He certainly puts his own twist on music, always interesting. And those JC eyes seem to take in everything, not just watching but absorbing everything he sees and hears. Admire the man!!

Nice version. I saw Nico perform in Paris, solo, with just her harmonium...it was in another century...

Love and so appreciate your experimentation John Cale, and the interesting, compelling, glorious music you've made and continue to make! Improvisation fills me with anticipation...

Anyone expecting a faithful aping of the original does not understand Cale, or VU either for that matter.

John sounds high as fuck. But he completely clean and sober. Very much darker than the old version

Fantastic version of the great Lou Reid song in Mr Cale's lovely Welsh accent. I'd really love to hear It sung in Welsh.

If you listen to the "I'm Waiting For The Man" demo and then listen to the officially released single, it is like WTF?! It went from folk ballad to protopunk! The driving piano, the pounding drums and the distorted guitars made that song what it was. If it was Cale, he was an absolute genius, for that, alone!

I'm one of John Cale's biggest fans. I honestly believe that the Velvet Underground woulda been a so so rock band without him. They would definitely not be the hugely influential, groundbreaking unit that they were without the input of Cale, in my opinion. He was integral to what the VU were. His solo career, for me, has been beautiful, tragic, disturbing, compelling, chaotic, depressing, stark, dark and black but never, ever boring! However, he ruins this amazing piece of music with this piss poor rendition of Waiting For the Man. That is fact. What he'd have been better doing is adding some grating viola to that amazing music. Just my opinion. no, i am not a musician but I do know good music

gary Smith Though I do agree Cale was important, I feel Lou Reed was equally as important. For example if Reed was not a part of the Velvet Underground Cale likely would have played pure experimental and noise rock. This cover is good example of what i mean, no rock to be found and non of the original feeling of VU. They definitely wouldn't have been as influential to punk as they were if Cale hadn't had Reed to keep his artsy tendencies in check.

God point Mtg bit I suppose its don t persnal taste...when Calle's Viola, Organ etc left the VU, so too, for me, left the essence of what they were., Although they were a rock band, they must be about the must 'unrock rck nand of all time! HAve you heard the versions, from 65 with CAle singing Vemus in Furs - like a medievil flok song!

I think that this arrangement gives an idea what Velvet Undergroung was really about. Experimenting with sounds and music to a level that many found disturbing at their time. I surely prefer other renditions of this song by John Cale (he must have played it thousands times) but I also like what is going on with this one.

+ gary Smith As a Cale fan you surely know that JC always rearranges his music, never repeating his live performances. So he varies the style and the sound of the songs every time he´s on stage avoiding having to play it the same over and over again (what most artists do, due to lack of talent). In an interview he said that would just bore him. So I´d rather have Cale coming up with a version of a particular song I might not be so fond of, but that´s what makes this musician so unique: his unlimited musical creativity! By the way I just love this rendition. Anything else than boring (IMO) with all it´s interaction of diffferent sounds and bleeps - with every listen there´s something new to be discovered (especially with headphones). My experience with listening to Cale´s music has been that when hearing a new song (or rendition), now and again I might have not been too keen at first or simply overlooked a song. Often though, when I came back at a later date it was: wait a minute this isn´t even that bad, and with every new listen it grows on you. So maybe you want to give it another listen. Here´s a playlist with 22 different versions (with The Velvets and solo) of WFTM I have on my channel: kzbin.info/aero/PLNINWcxxj9hHREhUH6k-p2MZgk5Ld17AO You might want to check it, and hopefully there´s a version or even more that appeals to you.
