This man isn't just a photographer. He's a philosopher and narrator with a camera.

Interesting how we see these same tech people today. Twitter, Facebook, Paypal, etc. All part of the cancel culture. FB transparency has been actually hidden. Platon was spot on in describing them and their hidden personality.

I'd love to hear from Platon about his choice of pose at 17:40. Very awkward, unnatural pose, how did it come about? Does it portray Mr Systrom favourably? Are his hands supposed to be framing his face in a phone-like shape, as if he himself is inside a phone?

Platon seems to see people through an idealogical lense. Very talented photographer obviously and I enjoy his lighting & style. I understand that there is not much time with his subjects, but he doesn’t seem to pull much out of them. Some look very contrived as if he is projecting his idea of the person onto them which is reflected in the photograph. Everyone has their judgements of leaders (Bill Gates spiritual?), but the camera should not be used as a tool of judgement from the photographer. As hard as it may be not to.

What get's me about "famous" photographers are that they aren't necessarily amazing. Some are, but some are just fortunate to photograph famous people...and while the images are technically sound, they aren't necessarily unique outside of the fact that the subject is famous. Platon will talk about how he captured the emotion, or character, or whatever, and he calls himself a storyteller and not a photographer. I agree, in a sense, because he tells a story about the subject in his image which gives his image more meaning than I think it really has. Somebody, like Putin, with a blank expression on his face is described as cold. I doubt that is who Putin really is, and Platon failed to capture that. Instead, he shot what everyone always sees and expects. In this video, the first shot of Obama is pretty standard, and shot from below the chin with folded arms to convey power, somewhat of a cliche pose, but since it's Obama...oooh, ahhhh.

Mr. Brown, please show your photographic work since you seem to know more about the philosophy and technical aspect of photography. Put your link in the postings. If you don't do it, your words are just unconstructive criticism.

You don't think Putin is a cold person? Interesting perspective on someone who headed the KGB and regularly sanctions the bombing of innocent civilians. I guess what you mean is that he, like Hitler, was kind to his dog though. I think what you fail to understand is how little time you get with these people, and the pressure involved. 5 minutes, surrounded with advisors and bodyguards, and a subject who really wants to be anywhere else than in front of a camera. Most people would forget how their camera worked.

I have come here to watch Platon. The first minute he's started glorifying the war criminal Obama and I'm out. 👋
