@everythingflows319617 күн бұрын
@@jleezy259 Amen. In what world is there a history of hip-hop without EPMD in it, and Eric in particular? On all grounds except selling a billion records, they meet the criteria for “greatness.” Eric Sermon meets it even for his work beyond EPMD, as a producer, solo artist, talent scout, and so on. That he isn’t on the list is disgraceful.

I’m stuck in the old days and I don’t care enough to get unstuck. First, I’d have Ice Cube and LL much higher and Dre wouldn’t be on the list (as a rapper). Second, the following would non-negotiable: Slick Rick, Kool G Rap, OC, Lord Finesse, Posdnus from De La, Puba, Masta Ace, Black Thought, Del from Hiero, GZA, Big L, Scarface, Kool Keith, Guru, Jeru, KRS. That’s just off the top of my head, and they don’t leave a lot of room for any of the more contemporary choices. And I’m very ok with that.
@Justintttt17 күн бұрын
Love the people you put your list.Would you add Redman and Kurpt in the top 50 or are they right outside the top 50?
@everythingflows319617 күн бұрын
@ funny enough I thought of Redman after I wrote it. You mentioning Kurupt brings up the sore spot of my “list for people who say Get Off My Lawn” - not enough west coast representation. As far as the big Cali rappers go, Kurupt probably belongs. He certainly belongs over Dre. As does, say, MC Eiht, who tends to get robbed of the credit he deserves in helping create the “Compton” style; we like the simpler tale whereby NWA did it single-handedly.

We need Lord Jamar's take on Asap Rocky doing that Gucci Guilty commercial. Rocky sold his soul with that one.
@leogolive20 күн бұрын
They only do rap lists this way. I can promise you if Forbes has a list like this for the greatest rock bands of all time there will not be a band from the new millennium on the list. The newest bands will be from the 90s and go back to the 60s/70s. And either The Beatles or Led Zeppelin will be number one. I bet my life on it right now. And I haven’t even searched to see beforehand.
@everythingflows319617 күн бұрын
@@leogolive That is a very good point that hasn’t occurred to me. It means, if I’m not mistaken, that they don’t take rap seriously as an art form, viewing it in more or less strictly commercial terms, with an emphasis on the contemporary, as though its substance were merely an endless series of fashion statements and postures struck for pop appeal and money.
@leogolive12 күн бұрын
@@everythingflows3196Yeah I agree with you. Unfortunately, a lot of participants in Hip Hop don’t take it seriously as an art form either. They view it the same way as Forbes.
