Because they're ALL trained to NEVER answer a question directly, if you don't like the question rephrase it yourself and never try to answer with a simple yes or no answer which is why you can ask them "is it raining outside" and instead of a simple yes or no they'll say something like "To the best of my knowledge, I believe it to be raining outside", that way they avoid having their words coming back to bite them later on and they can also control the narrative. The US has a legal system, not a justice system. Lawyers are taught in law school that to lie is required and is a positive. The "normal" concept of right and wrong simply doesn't exist with lawyers. With regards to the court system and court lawyers, it doesn't get much lower than that!

As much as people might not like it, she did what a lawyer is supposed to do- protect your client. In other words: buy the best justice you can afford.
