Quick note: For those of you who don’t know, Citizens United was passed (March 1, 2009) by the Supreme Court, and in essence it says Corporations are people and money is speech! It lifted restrictions on political campaign contributions. You can google for a complete description. Repealing this amendment is the best first step to start giving this country back to its people.

The broken Healthcare System we have currently is the leading cause of this homelessness due to the over 500,000+ medical bankruptcies (now estimated to be over 700,000 a year). It used to be the Top 10 Wealthiest Individuals held as much wealth as the bottom 50% of Americans (this was a decade ago), and now the Top 3 Individuals own as much as the bottom 60% of Americans. Over half the Country is living paycheck to paycheck, so over 175 million people can't get ahead and have to live with massive stress, anxiety, depression, fear, etc.

Bernie Sanders is a Prophet of Biblical proportions; a voice crying in the wilderness of a dying America. When the dust settles and this once great nation is reduced to the ashes of oligarchy and feudalism, his words will be the only remainder of what once was, and what could have been had the United States not abandoned its soul and sense of decency. God bless this man.

No he's not. He says one thing and votes another. You're just a low info voter who falls for frilly speech. I was rooting for a gov't shut down last week and am praying for the house situation to collapse, so that traitor trump doesn't get the electoral votes certified and cannot get sworn in. Then on January 19th Biden's term expires of we have no president at all. Then America's gov't and fake economy can finally collapse on its own and it will be a TRUE meritocracy from that point on. If trump does get sworn in then we can always depend on the $1.5 trillion in CRE bank defaults, upcoming student loan defaults, and consumer debt defaults to finally put us out of our misery. Either way, we're limping away from the scene of this crash. CAN'T WAIT!!

When I was a child in the fifties and sixties, I looked up to the US. I lived in Denmark 🇩🇰 and sometimes read a US magazine called Popular Mechanics. I was amazed by all the tools and things you buy. Later on, I worked as ship engineer for a Danish shipping, we had a new AB seaman among the crew, a black American. I left the ship in Mobile, Al to fly back home to Denmark 🇩🇰. But before I shook hands with all of the crew members. When I told him that I had 2 months paid vacation in Denmark, he couldn't believe it, he had literally never heard of such a thing as paid vacation before. Today all danes have 6 weeks paid vacation. I had two months because I had been on the ship for nearly a year. Strong unions made Denmark a better society. That's why Elon Moskovitch hates unions. He only cares about himself. I see many comments below criticizing Mr. Sanders. But I personally believe the statistics he cites are accurate and the conclusions he draws are sound. I believe the Supreme Court struck a deathblow to our democracy when the court decided it was okay for corporate interests to spend virtually unlimited amounts of money on political campaigns. The net effect: the ultra-wealthy members of American society are encouraged to "buy" our government and drive its policies in the manner that they think will increase their wealth. As a 74-year-old retired female engineer, I need to express my deep frustration with our healthcare system. My situation illustrates the challenges many seniors face: I receive $2,233 in Social Security, but after the $349 Medicare Part B deduction, I'm left with just $1,829 monthly. This must cover my mortgage, property taxes, more than five medications, and other essential expenses. Regarding Luigi's actions - I believe they stemmed from a place of intelligence and justice, not foolishness. He gave voice to what many Americans feel about our broken healthcare system. Why don't we have universal healthcare like other nations? The answer, I believe, lies in the influence of powerful interests over our political system. My faith in the system has eroded, but I believe change is possible. We should put universal healthcare on the ballot and let the people decide. Luigi acted with compassion and intelligence, standing up for those victimized by a corrupt system. He advocated for vulnerable people who struggle within our current healthcare structure. May justice prevail.

@fjp330515 күн бұрын
As a retired engineer, you should have your house paid for and should've saved some money for retirement. And you're right, the US , the richest nation in the world, should have universal healthcare. It's mind boggling why it doesn't. The politicians is the problem. I'm a 69 year old male retiree. I live in Spain. I have private medical insurance with an American company, Cigna. I pay $145 a month, and no deductions if I use their approved doctors and centers. If not, there is a 20% deduction. In the US, with the same company, I would probably be paying 3 or 4 times that. I can use the public system when I want, I only use it for primary care, it takes longer to get an appointment with a specialist. Medications here cost about 1/10, yes, one tenth, of what they cost in the US. I used to live there. And of that, as a retiree, I pay 1/10.

Actually you can go back to our beginning Founding Fathers....they were the billionaires of their time...they were English subjects living across the pond from their King doing all the work over here and sending all the proceeds back to his Majesty. So they got together and decided to create their own country, made up their own set of rules, and giving those whom lived here a bill of rights...example a right to bare arms against a TYRANNICAL government ( yah a free army)....and that was our beginning and it has never changed only passed on wealthy to wealthy.....don't believe me just FOLLOW THE MONEY from our HUMBLE beginnings...
@MrTeff99917 күн бұрын
That changed during the Roosevelt administration with the rise of the middle class. The death of the middle class began, in my opinion, with the Citizens United decision, and the crash of the housing bubble in 2008/2009.
@steven218317 күн бұрын
Immediately proceeding the revolutionary war, the veterans that fought and won independence had to march on Philadelphia to get the backpay that was promised in their enlistment from the same kind of people who have always run this government.....plutocratic oligarchs. It was called the Philadelphia mutiny of 1783 and it is one of the main reasons the capital is in DC rather than Philadelphia. Just because they're attempting to put the threat of oligarchy in the public narrative doesn't mean this is anything new. It has always been this way and by saying that it is 'emerging' is a deceptive attempt to negate that fact. If the threat of capital flight and economic downturn are all it takes to coerce people's vote, the seat of power does not reside at the ballot box. The social contract is not only broken, it was a lie. The lack of social contract renders the governing body, and maybe democracy writ large, illegitimate.

THANK YOU, Bernie Sanders! Most politicians lack the courage to speak up about the oligarchy---because it's members of the oligarchy who fund political campaigns. My favorite line from "Wall Street" is not the famous one: "Greed is good"--the line that got all the attention. The best line in the film is Gordon Gekko telling Bud Fox, "If you're naive enough to think we live in a democracy, you're wrong. We live in a free market"---i.e., an oligarchy.
