Thanks for the english subs. I like the openness of Amamiya. He confesses that Aiki no jitsu dont work with everyone and then he still use Jiu jitsu. Many think just because some internal techniques dont work on everybody that its total fake or a scam.
This is a very interesting video. Master Ryuji Shirakawa sensei's Aikido is very clear, beautiful and dynamic. There is a lot of practice and inquisitiveness, effort and talent hidden there. That's what sets him apart from many self-proclaimed "Aiki" masters. Regular Aiki masters are old, physically weak, and do not interact with other martial arts. They are the same as religions, showing off their techniques only to obedient disciples. I can say that Shirakawa Ryuji sensei is a completely new world aikido star.

I didn't see any confrontation between shirakawa and any others. In any thing that could be confrontation, he always lost. Everything worked for him only when the other martial artist worked in copperative mode. THis is the reality.
This looks like a great study group., and I really like that teacher's energy. They give off a chill, non-pretentious vibe, something which is seriously lacking in so many Aiki groups... I wish I could find something like that in my area... EDIT: Subbed

I see, the practical use of aiki can be achieved by mastering all of aiki moves. so when the opponent is resisting, or by chance physically isnt affected by the move, they can change the move instantly into the effective one it is like a magic trick used for self defense, so cool
(Not much was mentioned in this video, just one technique of eye thrust.) The techniques of striking (foot and hand techniques) are excellent in kagebu-ryu. Moreover, since the first choice of places to hit are human weak points, it is completely different from "competitive martial arts" with rules that take safety into consideration. The deeper you go into the techniques, the more serious the damage to the subject becomes, so it seems impossible to make it a competition. That's exactly the kind of martial art suited for the police or regular military.

I agree, and it's also why MMA fights can last many minutes whereas a street fight will often be over in less than 30 seconds.

Aikijutsu was designed by the Samurai for the battle field. Atemi means striking the vital points of the opponent.

"The deeper you go into the techniques, the more serious the damage to the subject becomes, so it seems impossible to make it a competition." This is perfectly right!

I have yet to see a street fight or attack where someone statically grabs your wrist.
It's a very interesting collaboration. I hope for more. I watch the channel of Amemiya sensei and Shirakawa Shihan systematically and both are excellent at feeling their opponent's movements and receiving his energy. I am very happy about their further cooperation. Thank you.

It is the understanding of harmony in Aiki is why I like the art form.
This is great I’d love to see more interaction with koryu schools that use aiki. In the west we know of Daito Ryu, but this is the first time I’ve heard of this school. Very cool.

He said in the interview that it was a family system that had no name before he gave it a name so how could we?!
