Shirakawa Sensei, In Aikido, would it be practical to use the irimi concept when the opponent tries to stab? Maybe you could enter into him deeply if you are fast enough, or if your in-step was deep enough. Then, you could seize his stabbing arm with both of your hands or both of your arms, and guide him to the ground with cylindrical downward momentum. But maybe that would require a 'karate blitz' type of in-step. I say this because the attacker will pull his arm back after stabbing, which means he'll be ready to stab again. An exceptional Aikidoka would have to become like an octopus that strangles and tangles the opponent like the clothes on the attackers body. To envelope an attacker.
I appreciate your sharing with the public this way. Aikido has its place, as does every art, its not the art that makes the man, but the man that makes the art. And your art is superb! However, we can't play defense forever, we must move to offense asap if we want to survive a knife attack. I have successfully defended myself against a knife, a sword, and a gun attacks in my youth. So, it can be done but, it is very dangerous. I nearly lost my thumb one time, and got cut each time. Train for life. Good luck. Thanks again. All the best. Laoshr #60 Ching Yi Kung Fu Association
You cannot train a defender to develop a habit by moving the hand with the knife back. The attack will not be shown in the actual attack, it will be hidden. When defending, you should not extend your arms too far away from yourself. They will cut you. Or they will grab you and drag you to the knife. You cannot push away the hand with the knife for a long time. An experienced opponent will change the level of attack and go to the head or body. The hand with the knife should be hit with hard, short blows. When there is a possibility of an attack with a knife, and you are alone. The best thing is - legs, legs, carry my ass. The master showed the optimal technique - staying away, not extending your arms, knocking down the knife, leaving the line of attack, and not standing still and constantly moving and no linear movements.

Does it hurt being that stupid? It's a demo. If you're learning principles around a subject do you object that they don't include every variable possible? "But what if....?" posts like yours just demonstrate that you are utterly clueless about what you're watching.

This is a very valuable and inspiring educational video. If any Aikido master tried this, most of them would not have been able to succeed. Shirakawa sensei is always studying and evolving. His reflexes and the movements of his body as he handles the knife are amazing. I respect him from the bottom of my heart.

Great knife training! Shirakawa sensei is the best true aikido master. Oss🙏
Oke. Why attack in such a stupid way with a knife. Few times I saw uke catch with the empty hand and then stabbing, so nage can not get away. And that is how you attack with a knife in real life… catch and stab the hell out of nage. I know we practice a lot of other attacks in aikido with a knife. Hopefully we we will never get attacked, and if so, only in the dumb way. For the clever way is so much more difficult to handle. Thank you for your video’s. I really love the way you all take ukemi. Happy training.
