Mike, I picked up your book about 4 years ago and skimmed over it a little bit and not really taking it seriously and it promptly went to my shelf. It seemed alien to me in its entirety as if I just didn't have the sense to see what you see. I wanted to get serious about my artwork about 9 months ago as my baby girl is starting to express interest in art. So I dusted off your book and for the first time, read it and more importantly, understood it and it changed everything for me. Thank you

Wow-what a great tutorial!! I noticed the ease in which you drew that 1st line-beautiful! I understand what you are saying about Force. I have realized my own fear and perfectionism and agonized over it. I am so grateful for what you are sharing to us artists. It is a a treasure!

I have been trying to gesture draw for a while now and they looked lifeless, despite being posed or seeming reasonably anatomically correct. after seeing this I get what they're lacking and also the way in which I sketch (example 1) is doing me a disservice. Thank you so much.

Having spent years learning about the scientific definition of force, this is a huge shift in thinking. I can FEEL everything your saying, but it hasn't really gotten to my head yet. :) It's such a new and amazing concept for me.

Only my frst viewing of your style and straight away could relate it. Have an Engineering and teaching Physics where the concept plays a very important part also as a young man studied and taught Tae Kwon Do where tthe application, thinking, and direction of Force play a veru important part. I too also developed a sytem for students to understand and learn Maths by what I called 'TECHNIQUE' in breaking down the strikes and kicks thinking 'What do I know', 'Pick the right technique (ie formulae , tool), 'Apply it' and practise it so often it stops being a series of steps and becomes a natural fluid action. For 15years worked very well for many of my students. Thus from what I have just seen and having tried out contour drawing, many very loose light lines where by luck you get one ood one which you darken - your FORCE style I can very much see what you are getting at. I shall watch your other videos with great interest. Thank you.

I'm in the same rut because I try to draw what I think I see or what I think I know about the subject. Just keep finding reference pictures and try to exaggerate the poses. Do lots of gesture drawings. I find them to be the best thing in the world for capturing force and energy. Also, something else that helped is holding my pencil in an overhand grip between my thumb and forefinger and draw with the arm and shoulder.

Why did you say karandash? It is a Russian word for pencil.
@seriousmax8 жыл бұрын
+caio oliveira Ah I see. Wikipedia confirms: "Caran d'Ache" comes from the Russian word karandash (карандаш), meaning pencil, which in turn comes from the Turkish words kara taş, meaning black stone."
