Hello, for all those who are having confusion in the sign of forces, I'll try to clear off the confusion. Here we go, directly have Fx on the LHS and rest all components on the RHS, now you'll find it easy to crack the logic behind the equations. Similarly do for Fy, i.e. Fy on LHS and rest all terms on RHS. Do include '0' in the equations to eliminate ambiguity. All the best!

The final equation for Fx is Fx= P1A1-P2A2cos(theta)-[pQ(V2cos(theta)-V1)] Similar with Fy, but no y component on any flow that is in the x direction (Point 1)

Because we are considering continum. And we are showing opposite sign because it is the reaction applied by the fluid(at section 2-2) on continum. It will not act along direction of flow.

@kalyanhp9742
@kalyanhp9742 6 жыл бұрын
i will tell you why (p2 a2) taken as negative....you know what "stress is force acting per unit area" right.....here stress is similar as pressure....so if you want to know how the pressure is acting....then the force should be taken perpendicular to area....let take a small rectangular element....one side of pressure in x direction and the other side of the element the force acting should be perpendicular to the face and in opposite direction....because we are considering the change in element and also this the surface foce on the element....therefore the pressure for any element should be in opposite direction with respect to other

It's negative because you always define which direction is positive and negative. In this case positive direction on the y axis is up, so force downwards has to be negative.

@SeekTheTruthAndTruth
@SeekTheTruthAndTruth 6 жыл бұрын
Rahul Kumar brother you are right in the sense that we have to calculate force on the bend but you got to remember we are applying momentum equation on the fluid not on bend .After you calculate the force you simply do the reversal to find it on the bend.
@ujasdiyora441
@ujasdiyora441 6 жыл бұрын
Aqif bhat yes we are Applying force equation on fluid. Then we have taken here p1A1 force in -x direction . But that force is acted by fluid on bend. But rather we would take negetive of all pressure force we have taken here.? We have to take (-p1A1) and (+p2A2cos(thethha).)
@SeekTheTruthAndTruth
@SeekTheTruthAndTruth 6 жыл бұрын
Diyora Ujas brother I can see clearly that P1A1 is being applied in the equation as a pressure force on fluid in the +X direction. I don't think we need to take P A1 in -x direction when here our sole intention is to consider momentum change of fluid in +x direction.

There is a confusion regarding the sign of force so, explanation see= hum log force exertedby moving fluid on the bend is +fx ok, now consider the force equilibrium for the moving fluid uske upar jo forces act ho rhe hai wah hai due to pressure, due to pipe bend(-) which is equivalent to the rate of change of momentum in the respective direction and regarding gravity to hum log forces ki analysis as a control volume man kar karte hai jiske upar saare forces act karte hai us case main hum ise Newtonian body ki tarah lekar chalte hain and moreover gravity ka significance jabhi aayega agar us body ka acceleration find karna ho
