Force matching with the Road Force® Elite

Road force measures tire and wheel uniformity as a single unit, seeking stiff spots in the assembly that can cause vibration issues. Force matching, as performed by the Road Force® Elite wheel balancer, corrects vibration unrelated to the balance itself.
Field Training Manager Miles Dierker demonstrates some of the advanced force matching features of the Road Force® Elite, designed to identify the best method of rotating the tire on the rim to lower the road force value. This adjustment creates a more uniform overall assembly, reducing non-balance-related vibration.

I love training the bead massage process. I have one shop that calls it "burping the tire" referring to the noise of the trapped air that comes out many times while performing this step.

All you ever see is balancing machines display the weight in 1/4 oz increments. Can the Hunter get any closer than that?

This machine literally tool out 90% of my front end and steering wheel vibration between 65-70 mph ... Guy said my kumho tires are to blame.

Same thing with me. BFG KO2 tires. Brand new and was having vibration at 70-80mph. My mechanic said the wheels are balanced, its as good as you are going to get with off road tires and that Road Force balancing wont work with all-terrain tires. Then, took them to a tire shop - they said we have lots of issues with those tires and all 4 are visually out of round... Take it to Toyota dealership with the Road Force balancer - riding super smooth now. What a pain. Great solution.

@@andrewgarcia940 and the issue is you cant see the out of round tires unless they are mounted to a wheel. I have been buying kumho tires for well over 20 yrs and have never had this issue with out of round tires. But i guess at some point its bound to happen. When you mass produce millions of tires, there will be some that wont come out "perfect" round ...

Too many Tire "Technicians", AKA weight chasers, that don't really know how to do their job, all they know how to do is push buttons on the computer and stick the weight where the laser points to, chasing weights all over the wheel.. so many of them just don't really know any other physical techniques to try unless the computer tells them how.. 🤦‍♂️

It can. Usually a picture of the screen showing the road force measurements will be enough to get your distributor to send a new tire.

I have a very important question, my shop is dead set that if a road force diag is preformed on a wheel and it is in the red, the tire needs to be replaced. I do not believe this to be correct due to the fact you can get a brand new tire with excessive road force. It’s a balancing machine not a damaged tire diagnostic machine

Thank you for your question. There are a few things that can contribute to Road Force - out of round rims, tire construction issues, and tires not seated properly on rims. Any of these conditions can cause a vibration for your customer and the Road Force balancer can detect all of them. It is up to your shop to determine how this is implemented but verifying Road Force is within specs ensures your customer will get the best ride possible.

I am having a national tire shop not being able to balance my new tires, they claim their guys know what they are doing but I have already found a new set of Michelins to have 2 bad tires, defect from the start, and the tire shop acknowledged that and switched them out by my question remains to why the Hunter machine did not pick this up on 2 tires to begin with??? Now, I still have shimmy in the front at 50-80. This is with another set of brand new General Grabber HTS 60 tires. I rotated from to back, one side at a time and it made a slight better change but in the process, I ran the back tires with the van jacked up and found the right rear tire has so much lateral runout that it shakes the van while sitting on jack stands. I'll be heading back to the tire shop but once again, is it the fault of the Hunter machine or the tech using it??? Also, as 50 year, multi certified mechanic, started career in family repair shop in the 70's , we only used a static bubble balancer and things worked fine. I am of the opinion that the Hunter has a fault in that it does not high speed balance or check the tire at said speeds. Tires ALL will behave very different at high speed than the Hunter slow turn that it does. I'm tired of spending and wasting time at the tire shop, about ready to give them these tires back and find another place that has a Hunter and hi speed balancer.

Hi Joseph, thank you for the concern. The Hunter Road Force balancer correlates very well with both high-speed uniformity machines as well as high speed balancers. We are confident our machine can solve the vibration issues with your vehicle. It is very challenging to know what really happened in a situation like this. Rather than speculate, I would start by asking the tire shop for a printout of the Road Force measurement the next time you have it in there. That ensures that the technicians performed the Road Force measurement so that issues like this can be identified.

@@HunterLearningChannel Thank you and great idea, I am bringing the tires back to have the balance rechecked and will ask for a print out and to actually watch the balance process up close with the store manager. I still question the science of balancing a tire at low speeds like the Hunter Road force does without a check at higher speeds???? Why not incorporate this feature on your machines????

Why isn’t there bead massage on the opposite side?

Hi, thanks for the question. Bead massage is actually happening on both sides of the assembly. The Revolution tire changer automatic bead massage starts on the top bead [4:33], then the lower roller gets the bottom one after the top roller backs off [4:54]. If you look between the spokes you can see the arm come up before the tire wheel spins.

You can definitely see the two arms one above and below massaging. Top was first, the second arm below did its job.

Impressive. But, the tire still needed three quarters of an ounce to balance out. So the indexing of the tire and the rim didn't really balance anything out that it not unless I'm not following something here.

Hi Robert Robert. This is what I understand. There are inconsistencies in the material densities of the rim and tire resulting in "heavy " areas. The computer analyzes these areas and to offset any influences on the balancing procedure it zeroes out these heavy spots so they "cancel" . This is done by rotating the rim and tire independently so the lines produced by the computer match. The tire is then finally balanced . You can also think of it this way. A "square tire" can be balanced but if you put a square tire on a vehicle well , it would vibrate like hell !! Road force balancing smoothen out the forces of the tire on the road so the heavy spot on the tire does not hammer the road every time it makes a revolution. Hope this explanation helps.

@@abyssalsoul6216 That makes perfect sense I understand it absolutely. I had my tires road force balance once on my Crown Vic interceptor. I wasn't impressed but later on I learned that the operator and how he does it influences the outcome quite a bit.
