Review: Talk Less, Listen and Watch More. This is like talking at Intermission while the screen play goes on in another room or going out for a bathroom break and getting popcorn halfway through. Your attention is elsewhere and you just can’t be quiet enough to not interrupt with your own self importance. You’re why Silence is Golden rules apply. Writers, producers, actors and crew request your undivided attention for 90-180 minutes to tell a story and entertain you. Respect the work enough to give them that please. We used to teach kids not to interrupt, yet this generation doesn’t seem to understand how annoying it is. I’m thirsty, can I have a snack, I have to pee, but why, wait what just happened, why’d he say that, oh he’s gonna do that, she should have said that, what is he doing, who is that guy, what’s her name, I have those shoes, that’s a pretty bracelet, that hair though, that would never happen, that’s impossible, I don’t believe her, he’s lying too, hey look out, what did he just say, oo wish I had McDonald’s right now, that steak looks good, look I spilled something on my shirt, I have to go to the bathroom how about you, this popcorn is not as good as last time we were here, can you get me a refill, my feet hurt and my butt is numb, hey look what they’re doing in the front row, it’s dark in here, wait what just happened, I missed it again . . .

@DocMicrowave I thought the same thing. How do you loop a VHS seamlessly? It wouldn't have worked. But we just have to suspend disbelief, as is always required in an action movie.
@DocMicrowave5 күн бұрын
@@Karamarika Better yet, how do you find and intercept the transmission frequency of the camera on the bus? News vans are not typically equipped with brand band scanners. They send and receive on a narrow band of fixed frequencies. This is on the same level as the 2 meter HAM radios in Die Hard that work like phones and can also communicate on police frequencies. Everybody can hear and talk to everybody. Very true, suspension of belief is required to enjoy these movies. Not to mention taking advantage of the general public not understanding how these things really work. Still they were Awesome action movies! Far better than some of the stuff they put out currently.

Keanu Reeves' real best friend, River Phoenix, died right before filming was supposed to begin. They graciously pushed back filming so Keanu could mourn. He said that "Speed" really helped him get out all his emotions, which the scene after he's told Harry died becomes so much more realistic after I heard about his real life tragedy. Also, during his acting days he was always a wonderful actor, especially as the main bad guy. RIP Dennis Hopper!

I agree Speed Is a flat out 5 out of 5 rare flawless action movie or as close as It gets , they just don't em like this anymore. This reminds me how badly I miss the 90s , 1994 was such a strong year with Speed and Dumb And Dumber both coming out and they remain endlessly rewatchable favorites that never get old to me. Also I feel another thing that rarely gets mentioned anywhere Is how strong and Important 90s and 80s movie scores/soundtracks were , you could usually always count on them to be expertly tense , catchy , heartfelt , and undeniably memorable In all the right ways at the right times , enhancing already great scenes to another level. imo It's a lost art today and a crucial part of the secret sauce that made classics like this what they are , back when you wanted to own the soundtracks to the films as much as the films themselves.

The green plane that blew up looks like a courier plane that was being towed, and the towing vehicle didn't appear to be enveloped by the explosion. So if the plane was loaded, a lotta people aren't gonna be getting their deliveries, and probably a lotta insurance claims being made, as well as for the cost of the plane itself. I was a projectionist and had to splice this movie together a week before it came out. I had to add previews before it and add extra film in the front so you could run it through three projectors at the same time and hit sync. That way you could show the same movie in multiple theaters 5 minutes apart. I had to watch the movie a week before it came out to ensure I didn’t mess up the movie after I put it together. After opening day, I got to take the movie standup home. I remember watching the OJ Simpson chase a week later while the standup was sitting to the right of the TV. How weird is it that the OJ Simpson chase was a week after this movie was released and I still remember it because of the standup I took home? It had a giant 3D bus exploding out of the center of it.

In an original draft of the script, Harry (Jeff Daniels) was supposed to be the villain of the movie. He was the one that put the bomb on the bus. The elevator bomber would've died in the opening, but Harry would be forced to retire due to the injuries from that, namely being shot in the leg by Jack. They changed it after Jeff Daniels was cast because they thought Jeff was too likeable and audiences wouldn't buy him as a villain. Especially with Dumb and Dumber coming out the same year where Jeff Daniels character in that also being named Harry.
@JMO_19767 ай бұрын
To answer a few questions: Jack couldn't have shot the bomber. He was using what's called a dead man's switch. As long as he grips it, it doesnt go off. If he's shot or killed and his grip loosens, it goes off. Fear, especially in a situation like they're facing, is paralyzing. You may want to move but your body feels like it's frozen. No, the bus jump wouldn't have worked. My opinion has always been that if they'd left that scene out, this would've been a plausible movie. One of 2 dings on this movie. Jumping out at 50mph, you may survive, but it's not likely. There's a chance but it isn't good. I've seen people die from falling off an 8 foot ladder. The jet that blew up was a courier plane (like UPS or FedEx) so only packages inside & it was being towed. However, in a situation like this, the airport should've been locked down and evacuated out of an abundance of caution. In fact, they'd usually evacuate any non essential personnel to a certain radius like say a mile. With a bomb and jet fuel everywhere, that could've triggered a huge explosion if it hit fuel storage tanks. It's not like they even needed the plane to be moving, since the bus was wandering aimlessly. It could've easily struck an abandoned, stationary jet. That is my other ding.

I was 13 when Speed came out, and we saw it in the theater. It's one of my all-time favorites. What I remember most about the experience is that I was *soaked* in sweat by the end of it. It's one thrill after another. I like how it's 3 movies in one. You have the elevator sequence, then the bus sequence, then just when you think it's over, now you have the subway sequence. One thing you both seemed to miss with Harry is that he was on light duty after he got shot in the leg. So he was helping from his desk. He was the bomb expert, so he was doing the research on trying to deal with the bomb and helping to figure out who the perpetrator was. He was a very important support person for the story. There was also a strong bond between him and Keanu's character, so it made Harry's death that much more impactful.

Have a go at the "Spin City" series and you will remember his name well. A very memorable character he plays and actor's name is in opening credits and it sticks. Great fun with a few moving moments and - though a comedy - quite an eye opener. Dennis Hopper has always been good playing unhinged characters, since Apocalypse Now through Red Rock West through Speed and on, and not to forget Easy Rider.

Just a fun, cool, perfectly done little action flick. Still a joy to watch.

25:00 Nope, you're not wrong. There's no way a bus that size, with that many people aboard, could have made THAT jump. The little bit of a ramp at the end (which wasn't there when we saw the end of the road from the bus' POV) MIGHT have help it jump FIVE feet, but not 50 like the movie claims. LOL

I thought I read somewhere that in Dukes of Hazzard, more than 300 Dodge Chargers (or other cars with dodge charger bodies) were destroyed by jumping, most of them on the first jump. And they didn't jump very high. Also, these cars were modified to do the jump and still didn't survive. A bus would never be in working condition even if it made the jump.

Many people have questioned how the bomber survived the blast that threw Jack across the hallway in the first act. My personal explanation would be that the dynamite he was wearing could have easily been a fake, and he already had a real bomb strapped to some poor soul that law enforcement would surmise was "the bomber" just outside the hall door, and he detonated it just after slipping through another door into an area of the parking garage beyond a structural wall.

I can't imagine riding on a bus going more than 50 miles an hour. This movie was so intense.

I was just entering teens and I'll admit I mostly salivated over Keanu (still do, tbh) but yes, the bus jump even then registered as "Oh, C'mon!"

Sandra Bullock was fantastic in this her breakout movie. I know she was in DEMOLITION MAN before SPEED, but SPEED made it for her.

😂Yeah Speed was a great film, but in true Hollywood style they defy the laws of speed, gravity, physics, and the vehicles survive stunts that would break axles, blow tires etc.! Bullock, Reeves, Hopper and the rest of the cast did brilliant work. Glad you enjoyed the 'ride' ladies!😁
