Forces of Valor: Yamato Review!

I absolutely love this ship! Unimax/Forces of Valor did an excellent job with both of these models!

The paint scheme was accurate for the battle of Leyte Gulf. It was blackened to help mask her, but later on the blackening was lost for Ten-ichi-go.

Not bad. Yamato is one of my favorite battleships, but the Iowa class battleships are in first place in my list of favorite battleships! I especially love the USS Missouri.

Shiden Kai - her ( Yamato ) myth was far bigger then her actual history ! The one and only chance to engage, and she withdraws from a escort carrier group, after having three heavy cruisers sunk by the escort group ! Then she goes on her one-way suicide mission but never arrives due to the aircraft interception of her group which resulted in her sinking. The material put into building Yamato and her sister would have been better spent on aircraft carriers !

Yamato was the largest battleship in the world, but the longest were Missouri and Iowa. A little trivia : )

Krzysztof Kamiński yamato was wider, heavier, more armored, Heavily firepowered, and fast considering the fact its faster than any Battleships that was twice lighter.

Chaos Craft999 - Yamato at 27 knots top speed was the slowest of all the major battleships, Iowa class was 33 knots, Bismarck and Tirpitz at 30.8 knots - and as for armored Bismarck and Tirpitz took far more damage before sinking ( Tirpitz took 3 12,000 lb Tallboy bombs dropped from over 10,000 feet ) than Yamato, yet Bismarck and Tirpitz NEVER blew up... as Yamato did ! So all Yamato turned out to be was a paper tiger, whose myth was bigger that what she did in action!

Peter 1808 - sorry Charlie but Yamato took far less punishment than either Bismarck and Tirpitz - Bismarck from heavy shelling from 16in down to destroyer guns at ranges from 20,000 + down to point blank range of 5,000 yards PLUS multiple torpedoes and finally the Germans scuttled her. Tirpitz had three limpet mines detonate underneath her , then came the 3 tall boy bombs ( 6 tons each ) and yet she stayed afloat for 15 minutes before capsizing and sinking. Furthermore neither Bismarck nor Tirpitz blew up but both Yamato and her sister ship did !

According to Akira Yoshimura, from his book, 'Build the Musashi', she was The Palace, not hotel, that was only designated by Yamato's crew. Gambier Bay is a Casablanca class escort carrier, not an Independence class light carrier. I also own this, and think that it is a good representation of the battleship. A few things that need correcting, the aircraft that is mounted on the stern, never served on Yamato, they only made the single aa mount with no stand, this is laying on the deck, and the aa mounts on the two main guns shouldn't be rounded, but angled. This battleship is my personal favourite, and I own several books, even the 2005 film about her, and a few models of Yamato, and one of Musashi. I also have Enterprise from Forces of Valor, as well as Gear Box's modern Diecast USS New Jersey. Take care, and all the best.

The problem with Unimax Forces of Valor series is that compared to die-cast models of other manufactures (including Dragon, Hobby Master, and several others), the models are rather weak in details because they do not use photo edged , metal and polystyrene parts for the smaller items and thus certain parts are out of true proportions. For example, gun barrels for the secondary and tertiary armaments, masts, railings etc. are way too thick. People seldom assemble their own models anymore, but if you do, then for ships, the Tamiya 1: 700 or even the old Airfix 1:600 ship series would give much finer details than the Unimax series. The Unimax ship series are quite accurate in the painting schemes though, and even had different issues for the Yamato class and Tirpitz class in various years.

I build a ship that has 21.5 lnch guns and nine feet of armor and it could survive a hell of a battle and lf you see it and your sailing a warship smaller like 20.000 tons than you will have no choice but run lf possible and she weights 296.000 tons and that big for a battleship

The Iowas are only still around because they never saw any real action, and were never put in any danger. The most damage they took was a single Kamikaze, and the most powerful ship they saw was a training cruiser armed with 5.5 inch guns. USS Texas survives the war, does that mean that she can beat Yamato, no. IJN Mikasa is still around, but she would never stand a chance. Just because a ship survived the war doesn’t mean it was better than a ship that sunk
