The British Army Training Support Unit Belize (BATSUB) has been a hub for jungle warfare training for decades, but in 2011 it was scaled right down. Just six personnel are based in the country now, but demand for training has recently started to increase, with members of 2nd Battalion, the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment one of the most recent units to go there on exercise.

This brings back memories. 40 years ago seems like a lifetime for most but feels like yesterday to me. One of the toughest but most enjoyable courses but to hot for my liking. The wildlife was fascinating, armadillos, snakes, lizards of all kinds and bats. Oh the bats were amazing! It gave added impetus to my interest in the biological sciences. Very friendly locals too. UK should negotiate a large base in the country. It would benefit greatly from the investment.

I don't think the British army can handle the Guatemalan Elite soldiers the Kaibiles...The Kaibiles are experts in the jungle and have fought there during the civil war, British military is not use to the central American jungle and it's weather....

central American jungle is a rainforest. British military have training experience in the rainforest during ww2 in their colonial country. so it's not true they not used to those kinds of forest.

You will save yourself hours of agony if you WEAR PANTYHOSE under your trousers in the jungle. Leeches and Ticks can be peeled off without leaving their heads detached in your skin this way. Let's all thank my: 2-tours of Vietnam uncle Paul S. for this RANGER-nugget of gold.
