The role of special observer is unique.
Their job is to march up to 100km ahead of the frontline - deep into enemy territory and in the dead of night construct observation posts in buildings, bushes or underground. Then they must watch and wait, silently logging the enemy’s every move and feeding it back to command. The information they send will be crucial.

Along with your standard reconnaissance packet, you were required to find all of the Hidden index cards to ensure you didn't just watch the objective from one place. Lots a fun while in school.

Camouflage, cover and concealment. We had some real good training on the subjects. Once my class was led to an opening in the forest. A man was placed about 100 yards just inside the trees on one side of the clearing. We were asked to find him from the spot we were standing and yell out the range. Out of about 30 of us, no one found the man. He was signaled to step into the clearing from where he was standing. Unbelievable! The soldier had disappeared. Valuable lessons learned in camouflage. Concealment is another skill that requires careful execution. With camouflage you blend into the surrounding, with concealment you eliminate all the evidence you are there. No unnatural colors, shapes, movements, reflections, etc. Cover is what stops bullets.

@@mannyechaluce3814 Simply because the US military ran away, and the Afghan military were wholly unfit for purpose! Irrespective of how many trillions of dollars, training, equipment and weapons that were given to the Afghan military, they were always unfit for purpose. Treacherous Afghan military personnel, illiterate, dumb, lazy applicants, they liked to pose with the US supplied weapons and equipment, but as for defending their country and its people, they were truly unfit for that purpose. The evidence of that was how they all ran to the airport instead of taking on the approaching Taliban forces.
@JAmediaUK
@JAmediaUK Жыл бұрын
@@mannyechaluce3814 The Taliban were *given* back their country in a deal done by President Trump *WITHOUT* telling any of the allies. When Biden came into office the Taliban had already gone back in country (but not fighting) and waited for the handover. Unless the Allies wanted to put 10's of thousands of troops back into Afgan and start a hot war all over again there was nothing to be done. Biden negotiated an extension to get the allied people out. but some of the Taliban went off early and it escalated from there. Remember the Allies had not been doing the direct fignting for some years and it was 99% ANA who were on the ground. Also Trump had been trying to pull ALL US troops out of Afgan inthe December/January after he lost the election. He told the Taliban all the US would be out of Afghan by February. They acted on that.

Bro, there's spies that are born spies. Deep in the dark, dark world, babies are born and trained from birth to spy. Their mission is to be a spy. They don't exist, no names no family, no connections. They live a lovely paid for lifestyle, but spy, spy, spy. I wouldn't be surprised if they had a very high up position in every countries intelligence agency.

Awesome. This is seriously good training (not the level you see in the video for OPSEC I'm sure) and a ballsy job. But imagine doing that whilst an active enemy, maybe even mechanised or some form of armoured brigade is rolling around past you most of the time, they'll have FLIR and NV optics connected to coaxial machine guns, not to mention troops sweeping/beating the ground also. One mistake and it's goodnight. Just a total guess but they must have some emergency radio call that tells artillery miles away to just fire everything on a predesignated spot to give them time to extract and get out of there. Otherwise these teams if compromised would get captured or killed quickly by a large enemy force which would be a total waste of life and expensive training. Not to mention all the kit that would fall into enemy hands.

True, however a human at eyelevel and close quarter to the enemy are able to gleam far more indepth information than any drone system currently. Morale, bearing, routine, ground conditions, water crossing depth, surface weight (can the ground be crossed by APC in the event of an attack. Plus a drone cant be on station 24/7 for 10 days.
