The British Army's 1st (UK) Division is now the lead of the land component of Nato's new Allied Reaction Force (ARF).
Under the command of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), the ARF will respond to anything from humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to security operations and warfighting.
The ARF is Nato's response to the diverse range of evolving global security challenges.

There's not much point getting there "first" and just being a speed bump for the opposition. You need combat power to defend/delay.

So though ,these are reinforcements there are already Nato forces, approx brigade sized, in each of the Baltic states .. so this force ,1st UK Division would about double Nato's forces ,in the Baltics just at the outset,not counting national forces of those countries or their reserves .& 1st UK is something like 15, 000 soldiers,at least 3 bdes , so its a fair bit of combat power ,esp taking into account Nato's nd their national forces already there, altogether approx the equivalent of 3 divisions

Disagree. Light Infantry, especially these days, has more than enough combat power. If you can get troops there in time, it can be the difference between winning or losing a war. Case in point: 1948 Kashmir war, India stopped the Pakistani invasion cold in its tracks only through rapid response forces that were flown into theater. Today India holds 2/3rds of the erstwhile Princely State of J&K because of that rapid response. Had Indian troops even been one week late, the Pakistanis would have taken Kashmir's capital and thus the entire land, ensuring a surrender of the Maharaja of Kashmir on Pakistan's terms and thus a permanent loss of territory. Not just the war, we'd have lost the high ground wherefrom many of our rivers originate. Getting there "first" has a LOT of merit.

British Army should take lead in the nuclear deterrent. With constant threats from russia, and uncertainty in the US, Europe should clearly show that even without US support, Europe still be lethal to russia in case of any nuclear incident. The U.K. is developing a new sovereign, independent, nuclear warhead for its British built nuclear Dreadnought stealth submarines instead of using the American technology for our trident warheads. We can do more and have an ability to innovate especially when our backs are to the wall. We did it in WW2 with Radar that helped win the Battle of Britain and many more inventions and we are doing it again with DragonFire laser weapons and Radio Frequency Directed Energy Weapons.

If all this was left up to me I would insist that each nation in NATO minus Turkey who I do not trust would have a massive effort to develop a system to see all types of drones flying ones and those that are on the ground . Next most importantly would be having the equipment to bring down any type of enemy drone. He that controls the skies wins. The big air battle now is with drones some of which are very tiny . I heard one person from the USA who said he was in some part of the ground forces of the USA and he said they had drones with a camera on them that could fly into those mud dung houses people live in and fly around unnoticed as the houses have no windows and are fully of fly's. So they could see room by room who and what was in a house before going near it. So the tech . needed to detect and knock down all drones will have to be able to handle any drone regardless of size
@cjjk9142

@josephderrico6254 Most weren't "Hitlers Fieldmarshals." They were just German Wehrmacht fieldmarshals whom in true Prussian tradion were A political, patriotic, chivalrous Prussian officers from the Junkers class... Their fathers were military offices, their grandfathers were military officers, their great grandfathers were military officers.. it was a family tradition.. Many of these Fieldmarshals were highly respected by the Allies and many were related to royal families of Europe... Ervin Rommell was one of these respected Fieldmarshals, although he didn't come from the Junkers class. Gen. Patton had a lot of respect for his opponent, Rommell! Just because a few of them were sadistic ideologically driven Nazis doesn't mean they all were!! So, for the original poster to blast ALL German Fieldmarshals as some boogy man National SOCIALISTS is just ignorant! The individual is either ignorantly parroting some marxist talking point or is just uniformed that there was a BIG difference between the SS and Wehrmacht!! However, according to Patton, "Being SS in Germany was no different than being democrat in America"
