These games are like Afton. Once you think they're dead, they come back. They always come back.

Very good talk. I could relate a lot, especially after I "fell off" from fnaf after UCN and only really got my interest back thanks to Security Breach. The break I had really made me realize I shouldn't take the lore as "seriously" lol. I'm just happy to have my own funny headcanons at this point.

The reason the story is so confusing is because fans never push for an actually coherent story. They encourage Scott to *imply* things and never actually explain anything because they are convinced that makes a good mystery. It doesn't. It leads to conflicting evidence and less time focused on the actual characters. We clown on MatPat, yet every time a new game comes out, everyone turns to him to churn out a semi-coherent narrative. (Which usually completely disregards established characterization and pulls major plot twists from the books despite that not making any sense because those plot twists only worked in specific circumstances with certain characters, with even him seeming to realize this and coming up with completely different narratives every time.) BUT ANYWAYS the fandom was content with this style of "story-telling" and ate up content like Fazbear Frights, which says absolutely nothing about the actual characters or world beyond loose allegory you can twist into practically anything. And they just shrug and shake their heads when anyone points out the fact that this way of storytelling isn't very compelling and misses out on the actual characters and intresting themes because "that's just how FNaF is". So like... can we really blame Steel Wool for this? This is what a fair amount of people asked for. They wanted a mystery to solve about the main plot based on practically no clues. And they got it. Thanks, I hate it.

Most people only ate up the Fazbear Frights because we were expecting actual explicit answers by the end of it. Now that they're done and over with and we've got nothing, its generally agreed that the Fazbear Frights were a complete waste of time in regards to the real main game-world lore. I think the only way the fandom has encouraged Scott to leave things stupidly vague is that most of what is commonly agreed upon among the fandom is based on headcanons and fanfictions rather than the actual evidence presented by the games.

I think that Scott did have a story in mind, and that story was pretty fine- until Sister Location, and less so, Fnaf World. This has been something I’ve stood by for a while, because from 1-3, or rather, 2-3, with 1 acting as more of a support, the story was pretty cohesive, with just the right amount of secret hunting and lore deciphering. 4 was fine in that aspect too, however, it seemed like Scott kicked the “dream theory” idea out the window, or if not that, something else he was planning to end the series on, which screwed the shit out of the timeline. Now other way to put it. Sister Location fucked the lore, and it’s as simple as that, because now you’re trying to fit completely new jigsaw pieces into an old puzzle, and they don’t match at all, but the worst part is, they look like they *should.* I like Fnaf- it’s a great concept with an interesting gameplay style, but there’s no point in trying to make a complete timeline or try to rationalize the lore beyond maybe 3. I’m always impressed by people who headcanon their way through plot holes in their stories, though, it’s kind of impressive.
