Please keep recording and uploading videos about this particular build, I wanna see the end result. I have a 4.0 ohv I want to rebuild and this is great constructive content!!

You can put a smaller diameter bolt through that stripped threadway and use a locknut on the other side

How well has this engine refresh been doing? Getting ready to start mine and you have been a wealth of knowledge. TY in advance!

I had a heck of a time getting the front main seal installed with the timing cover on the engine on my 4L OHV. It looks like a much easier job with the cover off. I used a Fel-Pro seal that comes with a wear-sleeve for the damper. However the seal itself would always twist or spin off axis in the bore, even with an appropriate sized socket to push it in evenly. I ended up smearing RTV on the outside of the seal for extra sticktion, and using my fingers inside the cover (oil pan off) as a back stop to keep it from spinning.

Yup it is much easier with the cover off. I generally don't like using wear-sleeves but will use them if it has to go on crank. Probably replacing damper would have been easier then going through that.

Is this a freshly rebuilt motor? Last I remember you weren't gonna rebuild the short block. I put new ported heads on mine and now wishing I would have changed the cam out...

Yes I ended up rebuilding the short block in the end cause the engine had 200k on it and the bearings needed to be change on top of that the engine will be boosted in the future so installed new rings and gaped then for boost. So it was not that much more work or money to do a backyard rebuild. The camshaft is that one thing that will make a big difference.

Really wish someone made a fluid damper for the OHV/SOHC. Yeah, rubber works, but... 100% your engine, and any other bolt I would have done the RTV thing...but one of 2 bolts at the front main seal? Might be pushing your luck. Time will tell! LOL Woulda been a pain in the ass to pull the pan and heli-coil that bolt, but maybe worth it?

That would be sweet for the damper be one will probably never be in production due to how little people use this engine. Its a ok engine but has very little aftermarket support. Ya I think the oil pan be fine it was only one bolt and its not a big deal to me if I actually have to re seal it in future. I have done worse sketchy things and I also don't think the engine will last long cause I beat on my stuff hard.
