One of the first things I did to my truck which I bought new in 2000 was put a fuel X-0ver between the fuel rails so they weren't dead-headed and then replaced the long #8 AE injector with an AD like the other 7 injectors. This killed the "cackle" and increased mpg as well as power.

I've been considering going to a little bigger injectors. I think you gave a lot of good information. I would be inclined to go with the IHC Injectors. The day I watched your video I had a interesting conversation with a older gentleman who retired from Catapiler as a engineer. He was involved with the development of the HEUI fuel system. Since I had worked around a Frieght company with Catapiler engine's we had a interesting conversation about my 7.3 and injectors. I've meet some interesting people while wintering in Texas. A nother guy stopped by last year while i had the hood opened and he told me he worked on the assembly line that built my 2001 F250.. Well Anyway keep up the good work keeping us informed about the 7.3s . I'm 66 and plain on keeping my rust free truck till I can't drive anymore, At least a nother 20 years.

Knowing the spec's is good, especially in relation to fuel delivery pressure is always a plus. I've learned from modifying Class 8 Heavy Trucks & from fuel injected gas engines...the key to complete combustion "Atomization & Fuel Spray patterns which deals with nozzles. You hit on good points like certain Injectors deliver a lot of fuel. You got me wondering if I could further verify what you said about the single shot injectors. I have been thinking about building an injector test bench where I send a signal for the infector to fire a pattern on some cardboard to get a baseline. Then you get all 8 to fire the EXACT same pattern on cardboard cards. These tests are the same as the injector tests we do on the Detroit Diesels. This is not an argument about injector knowledge...but something to look @ when Inspecting new or Re-built ones. You just sparked my interest in what it takes to truly tune & dial in injectors. Keep up the good work. Aloha, Chief -

@LivingOnWheels9 ай бұрын
AC injectors are single shot injectors. So in order to run them on your super duty you will need tuning to do so. You don't need to do anything with the IDM. The best tuning solution out there is the Hydra tuner. It connects to the PCM. I actually put a video up of installing one on my channel not too long ago.

Great Video Thanks. I have a question. Taking your situation as an example. When you installed your A-C code injectors...did you still have to install 1 A-E injector in number 8 cylinder ???? And, if not.....why not ?
@LivingOnWheels3 жыл бұрын
Nope. There really is no need for the long lead injector. You can technically through any of the 1-7 injectors in the 8 spot and it would run fine. The purpose of them was to help with noise and fuel knock in the #8 spot. They didn’t even use the LL injector till the superduties. So as far as upgrading to aftermarket injectors go, there’s no need for a special #8 injector

@LivingOnWheels4 жыл бұрын
The #8 injector knocks because it gets a little bit less fuel than the rest due to fuel flow and firing order. The injector is different because it is a Long Lead injector to try and help reduce that knock a little bit. The knock itself isn't exactly a bad thing it just is what it is. Replacing the injectors wouldn't help. The regulated return will make a noticeable difference and an oil crossover will make a noticeable difference. I did both of those and it was very noticeable.

Hey great video. Super info!. So I’ve got an early 99 with 350k miles. Original injectors. Mileage has gone down by 5ml/gal in recent yrs. still starts and runs good though. Basically I’m thinking new injectors. Priority is mileage over power. What’s your recommend?
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
First, clean out your exhaust back pressure tube and sensor if you haven't done so already. I would bet you'll notice a difference from that. As for injectors id say 1s or 1.5s. The biggest factor is your right foot. It seems to me that they bigger the injectors the easier it is to burn more fuel. That being said though, Most people I see tend to get a little bump when switching to single shot injectors if they can keep their foot out of it.

Ok thanks! Yrs ago I did check into the exhaust back pressure sensor. The tube was solid plugged and rusted out as well. It ended up disintegrating in that plugged portion.local ford dealer wanted $350. I ended up taking the intact portion coming off the manifold (about 10”), hose clamped another 10” or so length of hydraulic hose to the steel tube and hose clamped the other end of hydraulic hose to the threaded portion of back pressure sensor. Talk about a farmer fix hey! But it seemed to get me out of a bind. I will check that out however as that was at least 6 yrs ago. I’m not a heavy on the pedal driver and I’m old enough (40) that rolling coal seems like a waste of money! Lol. I will check into the injectors you mentioned. *As they’d be different than the factory injectors listed for my truck, would the job require any other changes? Turbo, injector driver module, or the programming? I have a superchips tuner that doesn’t seem to make any noticeable difference to performance/economy anymore. Truck is a daily driver work truck btw. Sorry for the long winded response. Really appreciate your response and great approach to your videos! Nice good clean and clear well presented information! You earned a sub!

Ahhh there we go. Watching for the several ith time, AC single shots.... that basically stage 1? So now question is can I simply drop AC single shots in my early 99? Or would that require additional changes/mods?
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
You are exactly correct. AC injectors are the one and only stage 1 injectors. Anything above those become 1.5s and 2s. Because our trucks were programmed to run on split shot injectors you would need to get new tunes for single shot injectors. A hydra chip with custom tunes from 1023 or Jelibuilt is by far the easiest route to go for that. To me it sounds like AC injectors would be a very good fit for you. Nothing crazy but a noticeable bump in power over the factory injectors. Would definitely give the truck some new life without requiring any other supporting modifications. Good gauges are always recommended though.
@iseesea65175 жыл бұрын
Living On Wheels ya I think the AC is what I’d like. I checked with a few diesel shops within a 150 mile radius... they’ve never heard of AC injectors going in a Ford 7.3 which to me just shows their lack of outta the box thinking (and also lack of demand for changes to factory parts). But seems like a lot of these shops and parts dealers are like robots and are limited to just looking up numbers in a book. So I could order the AC injectors, valve cover gaskets and glow plugs and instal the above... but the new tune is a big question mark for me. I don’t know anyone around here with the ability to do that part. I heard (or read) you mention a guy sent you a tune vis email or something, but you must have some very specific tech to plug a laptop into your truck eh? * I guess what I’m trying to say is; I have no way to get this tune from a computer into my truck

With the AC coded injectors, do you need a tuner for it to run correctly on an 02 f250?
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
Yes you would need a tuner for it. The superduty's computers are programed to run split shots. Switching to any size of single shot would require custom tuning. Even upgraded single shots in the obs trucks could still benefit from custom tuning. I do have friends that run upgraded single shots untuned in their obs though.

Yes and yes. Super duty trucks need custom tunes to run single shot injectors.

Wondering if you could give me a piece of advice. I picked up an engine with 4 out of 8 injectors and injector 1 was ran maybe 20 seconds without any seals. And now after having the truck all buttoned up I have a cylinder one contribution code. Do you think the seat for the injector is damaged or the injector is trashed ? It passed the buzz test but I don’t trust it. I also here a small knock but the average person wouldn’t here it . I’d appreciate it if you could get back to me. Thanks
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
hmmmm. Im sure that wasnt great for it but I wouldnt imagine that would kill the injector. It would have just cause the oil and fuel to mix. By seals do you mean the O-rings? How about the copper washer? . In regards to the injector knock, it is not uncommon for perfectly healty trucks to have slight injector knock. It is usually the number 8 injector causing it.

Hey Joe, just wondering if you read any info on EGTS with the different size Injectors. I thought I read somewhere about it, but was wondering if you had more info on it. Thanks.
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
That is something I totally meant to put into the video and after an hour of rambling to the camera, I totally forgot haha. This is gonna be hard to explain in just a comment. I will give you my best understanding of it all. Obviously, when you're adding more fuel you are increasing the EGT ability. Now there are some variations to this rule. If you're going with bigger injectors, a larger nozzle can actually help decrease your EGTs at higher rpms compared to stock nozzles. This is because there is a specific window of time in the cylinder stroke that is best for optimizing fuel burn and as the rpms go up that window gets smaller and smaller. Larger nozzles allow the injectors to empty faster and to put more fuel into that specific time zone where smaller/stock nozzles cannot because they take longer to empty. That being said, smaller nozzles tend to drive and perform a little better at the lower rpm ranges, but just can't always meet the demand of a long hard pull. Also, some injector sizes are easier for tuners to write tunes for and so that has some play in it too. Proper tuning is one of the BIGGEST factors in all of these things because 7.3s have so much electronic adjustability. My biggest recommendation is to get in touch with one of the big tuners and let them give you the run down because they will know these exact details inside and out.

Hey Joe I know you're fine with fuel additives what's your thoughts on hot shot secret thinking about getting that for my truck, good for the injectors or not I don't know
@LivingOnWheels5 жыл бұрын
I used both their oil and fuel additive to try and save the injectors in the truck when I bought it. Unfortunately they were probably too far gone. Their product seems goo though and if read countless good reviews on them. My opinion is give it a try and see how you like it. It's not a big investment to try and its not going to hurt anything.

rondogwil most of the OBS 7.3 PCM’s are interchangeable just make sure that it is the same plug pin out. Same with the newer trucks. They are pretty competitively priced across the board.
