thanks for the 7.3 video's, they have been a great help. I have fixed (changed) water pump, new starter,now she's leaking oil,changed out O rings for turbo, just found your video on the plugs in back and front of motor. I believe that I should check the back two,thanks for the video's man.

Usually oil in the valley and down the bell housing is the Turbo base housing are the EBPV actuator.

I'm leaking oil from a similar spot in my 02 7.3. It started a few weeks ago with a burning smell that I didn't think much about assuming it would go away but it didn't. Just the other day I had a look on that side and I noticed my turbo downpipe had splatters of oil all over it and my passenger side exhaust manifold had a layer of carbon built up near where the up-pipe bolts to. I know for a fact that my turbo and pedestal seals are good because I installed a Garrett powermax 88mm ball bearing turbo and a non-EBV pedestal and correctly torqued them down, so I can rule those out off the bat. I also use rotella T6 oil along with archoil AR9100 friction modifier. It only makes sense that the rear oil plug is leaking because the only other place I can think of is the valve cover, but that appears to be dry. The thing thats throwing me off is you said they updated the plug design to deter that issue, so I'm left questioning if that's really my problem or not. Whats your thoughts Makuloco?

you can tell if its a late or early by the the boots going into the plenums if its big coming off intake and small into plenums its a early and big on both ends is late 99. thats only if it hasnt been upgraded. you can tell by injectors also, but again if theyve been changed who knows. date on the door is another way also.

Also if you installed the aftermarket two piece down pipe it’s sometimes easier just to loosen it up so you can move it out of the way. Just did it to my truck and it wasn’t too bad at all. Thanks for the clear and simple instructions!

i have 3 7.3 i have a 97 that this plug on the back side of the head went out then my 02 just had the plug on the front go out very good video on how to, the only thing i would like to add is that on one side of the motor(head) on one side the plug is on the back on the other it's on the front

i have had to reseal that plug before because the machine stop removed it when we did the head job, LUCKY for me he used it as an excuse to installhis 4inch exhaust , all i said was "wow be easyer without that downpipe there!

Where did you get the 1/2 inch serpentine rachet. I couldn't find it on amazon. I bought a 1/4 inch fixed drive and broke it on a honda odessey serpentine tensioner pulley.

Have an oil leak lost about 4 quarts backing a 23 ft boat into my sons yard. Any ideas. I have a 2001 7.3 diesel. You said that the oil rail plug might be the culprit. You stated that they redesigned the oil plug after 2000. Could my problem still be that plug? Is it possible that the oil filter got hit? I climbed under the truck. The filter could of been tilted closer to the oil pan but still had clearence to the oil pan.My boy had been working on a truck and swapped engines. I guess the truck could of kicked up an old part and hit something.under the truck. After I lost some oil I drove the truck about a mile home. When I put it in the driveway I found no other oil stains. There is still oil in the pan. Any Ideas. When I was under the truck it seemed to have oil running down the back side of the engine but there wasn't much there just a little wet. Any ideas please let me know. By the way how did get to the back of the engine? Were you laying on top on the engine. I am in my mid 60's so its not so easy for me to stay on top of the engine. Can't afford expensive repairs. Hy buddy I have a light brown or beige mud type in my cooling reservoir and it looks like thick oily residue in the cooling and when driving and stopping on a traffic light the engine stall and looks like shouting off . Any Idea ? 200 7.3 power stroke

Hey brother, the rear plug on the HPOP of my 7.3 is blowing oil out on mine. I've got the HPOP kit from Riff Raff. It came with a little tube of Loctite. How long do I need to wait after replacing the O-ring before I can drive my truck.

I have a 07 F150 the with 5.4 that I rebuilt the top end on (thanks to your awesome videos) and I just picked up a 2001 7.3l that's in pretty good shape, but needs a bit of maintenance under the hood. Really having a hard time deciding which one I should keep (the wife doesn't like how loud the diesel is haha!)

And that's the driver side the pass side isnt going to happen with a 4" down pipe. I guess when it won't run I'll pull the engine out and do it on a stand

Mak, you make more sense and easy to understand vids. I've an '02 7.3 f250. So far no major issues. It's in the shop now (local mech) problem is stuck in 4x4 sotf. Haven't used 4x4 for 2 years. I left home and without doing anything, it's now stuck in 4x4. I tried backing up without any luck. How is it possible to engage 4x4 without touching anything? I always keep my hubs in auto, if I need 4x4, I'll lock in the hubs manually. Please help. Love your site.

I have a 1995 F-350 and need a new "LOWER" driver side front door hinge. I have not been able to find a lower hinge, but can find numerous upper hinges. Does anyone know of a direct replacement ( TAURUS, F-150) for the F-350? I know a lot of Ford parts that are interchangeable between Ford models. Any Help???

I've been chasing a bad oil leak for a while. Have put a seal kit through the high pressure oil pump and lines and have replaced pedestal o rings, now there is no oil leaking into the valley but all down the left hand rear. Have replaced the plug on rear of oil rail but still leaking (a lot). About to check if it is updated plug. It might be coming from where the high pressure line plugs into the head and blowing back? Hard to tell. Any help would be appreciated

John Benson Clean the area with degreaser and a hose thoroughly then if it is leaking that bad start it for 10 seconds or until you see the first drip and shut it off or have someone start it while you check with a flashlight.

My 2000, you have to take down pipe out cause the down pipe is about 1/8 of inch away from the plug. Person can't put a 4 inch down pipe on mine.

Anything from the front of the engine valley on back can leak through the hole down the back of the block so I always start at the front of the valley.

Yes the bearings have failed remove the air intake tube and inspect the turbine wheel for looseness and fin damage

the exhaust has a valve in the turbo for warming the engine up that goes bad in the pedistool and overheats the turbo if it stays closed i deleted mine a couple years ago had my pedistool welded up no more leaks

I have a 1995 e350 powerstroke and it has 2 major leaks, only one of which I am sure is oil, it leaks on the unit that the filter is attached to and it leaks HEAVILY. There are also leaks on what looks to be the hoses that are coming off the radiator, I'm not too knowledgeable so I may be wrong but it's leaked over half of the oil that it had in less than two weeks, it's almost impossible to track the exact leak because it just covers everything

the engine specifically used is the navistar T444E it should have an oil cooler where the filter is at if you look the area where the filter attaches should be attached the block and then has a tube running along the engine as well the seals get worn and brittle just the seals are Dorman 904 224 with the oil cooler is Dorman 904 225 you can get them on Amazon just search 7.3 oil cooler on YT and videos will be shown on it, it is also possible the turbo pedestal can be leaking
