For problems related to fuel delivery / pressure on FI Ford 460 7.5. Tried this on 2 90 F350's and both times replacing the regulator fixed the problem. But both trucks had totally opposite symptoms

You just saved me. Bought a 92 F350 with the 7.5 and man my front tank was acting the same way. Was minutes from ordering a new pump and found this video. Got it in and wouldn't you know it completely fixed it

FYI PEOPLE!! This guy must have a lot of patience or gave himself time to cool down before making the video :-) That regulator on the 460 (At least in a van) is a BIZACH to get out. Make sure your wife is at a friends, or on a cruise because if she comes out and starts barking orders or askes "How much longer"? it'll probably end in a divorce. The way ford attached this regulator (Especially with little upside-down allens) almost makes me take back everything good I've ever said about them. But Brig t is right. 4mm allen cut down is the way to go. I also found it easier with disconnecting the ac lines to get them out of the way beings my ac don't work anyhow. Looking back... I should've pulled the motor :-) finally done now

@@bobbylamug7712 I have a 95 Coachmen Catilina w/ fuel injected 460 w/ similar issue. If it’s cold, it will start and run like a bat out of hell for two minutes. Then after that, hit the accelerator it will bogg-down and try to fall on its face, (only underload). In park at idle, it purrs like a kitten. Saw your comment and wanted to see if this had solved your problem? I appreciate your time if you’re able to respond

@@godswill2260 No... I ended up replacing the in tank fuel pump, which was a huge job. There are two fuel pumps and I replaced them both. Now she runs like a champ!

@@BrigT262 Hi Brig T, I changed the fuel filter and the truck ran a couple of times starting it and then it quit: I think I got to figure out whether the problem is fuel or maybe electric. I got to check for fuel at the regulator and voltage at the coil. I will need to buy a fuel pressure gauge: seems no one has one for me to borrow. I have a friend who is also studying the problem. I just hope it ain't the fuel pump: I have two tanks and maybe it is the switch or valve? I will enjoy fixing it once it is fixed. I really enjoy your three videos. I have a '90 7.5 F-250 and I love it when it worked. Am not wealthy, but I need to figure out the source of the problem before doing this an that. Thank you for the reply.: so appreciate your help. my 84 grand marquis with the 302 throttlebody //cfi was having the same issues thankyou brig t for confirming the symptoms..of course mine is on the cfi housing .and screws are upside down ,,im gonna use a 1/4 drive socket with a Phillips insert and small ratchet ..im not taking all that linkage off and cfi off the manifold like they want me to ..I think I can do easier and shorter route like brig t did in this video ,,thanks for the video and explanation brig t

That may be the problem with my 1994 F53 Chassis RV. Ran perfectly after I diagnosed the MLPS switch was bad and rebuilt the EEClV replacement the three famous capacitors. Brought it home from a vigorous test drive with that old 460/7.5L power and smoothness, turned it off under the RV port and with no explanation at all, went to start it back up to a “no idle at all situation” and tons of black smoke, I was dumbfounded. Ran my Ford OBD-1 reader and 17 different codes popped up plus the check engine light. The codes were not the same as when the EEC and MLPS were faulty. Right now I’m stumped but I’m going to try your fix and see where I am. That little bugger sure is hard to get to on the coach but I’ll give it go and order the correct Ford example. Great video and that’s a fine truck you purchased. I’ll check back in and post a comment on my results. I’m hoping this will fix it. Thank you..

I hope and pray this resolves the problem. Both fuel pumps were changed out, fuel filter was changed out before purchasing this Ford 350 7.5 460 , the exact same motor but in a Tiago motorhome. Therefore technically this should be the final part to be changed. I do not know why the previous owner did not just get a diagnostic on it prior. Everything seems to be having the same symptoms as described in this vehicle as in mine. I ordered my exact same OEM fuel pressure regulator on Amazon last night for $ 32.05 that included overnight delivery. I hope and pray for positive results after finding the fuel was indeed running rich matching what was reported in this video. Thank you for an outstanding video.

@@imichael. ... Unfortunately no it never resolved the problem and today was the day to start the replacement of the timing chain and a diagnosis if possible. Unfortunately there are ongoing storms going on currently and working on my wife's pt cruiser alternator replacement stalling process on the motorhome itself. Hopefully I could get to the motorhome either today or tomorrow. The pressure regulator did stop a leak that was not detected after fuel replacements however so in that aspect it was good.

I have the same truck with the flat bed and thank you that helped I replace both fuel pumps and started with the timing not one fixed it. Now I tried your fix and it work great 👍

Thank You I believe that part will work on all ford EFI systems on the OBS Fords. 97 5.8L has one that is easier to get at. A small 1/4" hex head drive tool should fit in there, if you are planning replacement.

I have a 1988 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat V8 - 7.5L 460ci GAS MFI vin G - 2 valve OHV and I have had the same problem amongst other little things. I swear every time I fix something, something else goes on. Anyway, I did watch your other video and I'm going to do the MAP first. My question to you is, if I have to do the fuel pressure regulator, well this question goes to both parts I guess. is there gaskets I will need too? Have a 1996 Class C with the 460. Ran fine on a trip about 2 months ago. Started it up and moved it about 50 feet. It had been running about 2 minutes and died, no sputter. Tried to start it back up.. cranks great but does not even try to run. One of 2 things, No fuel or no spark. I am thinking no fuel. I will try replacing the regulator tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

A bad O2 sensor will indicate lean and dump fuel very rich to compensate. Black smoke and rough idle. No power. Great video info.

My 1990 Motorhome has the EFI 7.5, but there are NO Oxygen Sensors on this Setup. It uses a MAP Sensor, and ECU, an Air Pump, and Dual Catalytic Convertors, but NO O2 Sensor. I'm sharing this as it was surprising to me, having worked on many European FI Cars, and it is helpful for others to know that some EFI Systems do not have Open/Closed Loop Oxygen Sensor Systems.

Great video! I am having these issues, but mine is a 1977 E-350. I had purchased one, gave it to the mechanic, but like my spark plugs, I learned that sometimes, they just put it in their pocket. Now I do my own mechanical work. Symptoms: it was running too rich and then it hesitates and loses power.

Miss Adventures A 77 E350 does not use a fp regulator. It is carburated. Ford trucks did not start using efi until 88.

The pumps that are in the tank are low pressure pumps, they just feed a high pressure pump forward on the frame

I am dealing with the same motor in this video a 7.5 460 in which both fuel pumps were changed out, fuel filter was changed right at the time I was considering it and it's still giving me issues as described in this video. I hope and pray that the new fuel regulator works as I really need my motorhome operating correctly. I hope that I do not need to sell it also as I put a lot of money into it already saving up from my disability. I ordered the fuel regulator yesterday with overnight shipping from Amazon and only have two days left to get the motorhome off the property where it is today so I pray that this resolves the issue. I do not know why the previous owner did not have a certified mobile mechanic go there to diagnose the issue first personally. Therefore I pray it works with only two days to remove it from the property. not sure what else it could possibly be at all. Thank you for your response.

Happy New Year and thank you for the post, I have a 1989 F Super Duty, people states that is a 450 model not sure. Having the same problem, when accelerating slow run well, but some times do intermiten fuel supply. Would change the regulator and let you know the progress.

thought this was the problem with my 7.5. found out mouse ate through wiring harness. make sure you test fuel pressure before you waste the money on the part.

I've got an 88 Ford f250 with a 460 in it and I have no power when I'm coming up the hill I replace the fuel filter around seem to run fine and then it happened again my it is not working I'm at a loss it idles like a Swiss watch it seems to have power on the takeoff but when you come to an incline it'll cough and want to almost slow down no it does slow down and even if you downshift it'll still slow down I'm going to pick one of those up I'm in there only 27 dollars on Amazon thanks for the video I'll let you know if that was a problem

1988 460 rallye rv.. have experienced a couple backfires. fired right up cold, then won't start after shutting off. starter just spins but seems like no fuel delivery, or flooded? idk, gotta investigate more, but this can't hurt to replace!

Any advice I went through a puddle fast it was more like a lake but shortly after the truck slowly stopped and locked up ,I shut it off and it runs now but when you apply pressure to the gas it dies

do you have a link for the regulator? did you also have a problem with the front tank overfilling/being pressurized by the back tank...perhaps with my overfilling front tank it will be the check valves in the front pump?

So I went to the gas station put $25 in the rear tank only one I use since the front leaks. I noticed the gauge wasn’t working then I get about 12 miles and it starts chugging like it running out of fuel. Then I noticed the front tank was leaking when I was using the rear and the front has been dry for almost a year. I think it’s the fuel pump. Any thoughts?

When it's hot and cranks slowly, pay attention to the tailpipe exhaust to see if when it fires up, it smokes black smoke like it's flooded. The other possibility is maybe your starter is going out. Turning slowly when it's hot. Good luck man!
