I have an Expedition-1998. Rear pump went out. So I determined that soon the front would go out and cause me to spend more money. So I purchased a conversion kit to go with springs and shocks for the front and back. ($419 for the kit). Now the vehicle sits stronger and slightly higher, giving me a smooth ride and a peace of mind.

FordTechMakuloco, I have a '00 that I thought had sagging rears. I followed your steps and tested the connector, and the compressor kicked on. I don't have the proper equipment to test the two smaller wires, but I think the relay works because when I turn the truck off, I can hear clicking that sounds like the relay working. Hey FordTech. Great videos. I was wondering if you knew about when the compressor comes on to often. I have a Lincoln Navigator 01 that has the rear height sensor @2.4 volts and the front at about 3 volts. Both sensors seem ok when I move them up/down the scan tool voltage goes up/down. When the compressor comes on the front gate/fill solenoids come on usually. Is the the front height sensor voltage too high? If the car sits it doesn't drop after a couple hours

I have a question hope you can answer, 2001 lincoln navigator 4x4 symptoms compressor cycles on and off continuously untill suspension light comes on also after car sits off for about 40 minutes compressor runs and rear end drops. I checked for leaks and I did find a leak in the front right ( p side ) air shock housing not the rubber the shock rides on or the fitting but the housing. so that explains the compressor cycling. Now for my question can that leak cause the rear to drop as described. Thanks I appreciate your help.

Hello, I have a 1999 Continental with Air Suspension in the rear only. The rear is flat on both sides and the pump will not turn on. I thought it was the ride height sensor so I replaced with no fix. I ran the tests on the plug in this video assuming it was pretty similar to the Expedition and all of them passed except the last one. Another thing I noticed is when I jump the hot to the ground and let the pump run for 3 minutes it would not lift the car. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
@FordTechMakuloco8 жыл бұрын
+MaxDiff328 In general since the module found a fault in controlling the solid state relay it is not commanding the pump on so it never opens the rear solenoids. I do it manually with the scan tool. What you can do is fake a connection on the low current ground control from the module at the relay this way it powers the test light and thinks everything is ok then it will open the rear solenoids and then you jumper the relay pigtail as before to get the pump to come on and watch it rise.

@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
No it sounds like your rear bags have cracks in them from dry rot. Does the compressor come on while driving to keep them filled?
@marcuslrobinson10 жыл бұрын
Hey Thanks for responding. Yes it does come on while driving. I thought it might be a leak as well, but the strange thing about it is, the rear end doesn't always go down when I'm parked. About 5% of the time it stays up. Are the bags easy to replace?
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
Yeah it just depends on the angle of the truck and how the bags settled. They can seal up temporarily where the bags roll over upon themselves. Jack up the back end let them deflate you will see the dry rot cracks and such. The bags are very easy to replaced on these. The pin up top may be rusted but besides that once they are deflated they pop right out.

I recently bought a 2000 lincoln navigator, so I'm pretty much unused to the air ride system and its problems. A few days ago the rear bags just stayed low, I didn't notice the air pump/compressor functioning before but everything was ok, 1st question, when is the air compressor supposed to turn on? at the very first moment you turn on the ignition? Because the only time I can listen to the compressor work (I think) is when truck is on Drive, but still air springs are not being inflated, so it is pretty difficult to check for leaks on 'em.
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
Ok so it sat for awhile maybe overnight and you went to drive the truck and the back end was to the ground as in the video? Does it ever pump back up? If are really low they should pump back up with truck idling in park. Other wise they wont start to adjust till you put it in drive. Does the air compressor at least run when in drive but maybe not pump up the rear? Have you check the rear linkage for the height sensor they like to pop off on those models. I shown and example of the sensor at the end of the video.

+Birger Karlsen The compressor stays on while driving? If so first look at the air bags for cracks in them

FordTechMakuloco hi again, no they only adjust, but after driving awhile the compressor stops, the ass sinks and i get the warning light on the dash. i then have to stop the car, restart and all is good again. could this be the sensor?
@FordTechMakuloco9 жыл бұрын
Birger Karlsen What I am not understanding is how do you know the compressor stops running? Normally it pumps up upon the suspension on start up to bring it back to ride height and shuts off and if there is no leaks it shouldn't come on until you park the vehicle it kneels and the process repeats. If its running anytime other then after the initial height adjustment there is a air leak likely in the bags causing the compressor to time out since it is air cooled to prevent it from locking up.

@@billymovies Hey, how’d you end up fixing the problem? It sounds similar to what I got going on.

dealing with an 03 expedition with air ride issues. it is a 4was setup. compressor kicks on when manually jumped. but i have no constant ground and no command on ground. a previous scan of the truck shows that one of the front height sensors was faulty. could that one sensor being faulty cause the system to not provide a command ground? Also, on the constant ground: could i wire it to a ground on the body to achive a constant ground for it? or is the constant ground controlled somewhere else? when i turn the pump on manually and let it run, the truck doesnt lift. if i leave the on/off switch in the off position and manually turn the pump on, the entire truck should raise correct? thanks in advance.

money89tractors Yes I would replace the front height sensor as shown in my other video on 2003 and newer vehicle a faulty front height sensor will shut the system down. If you are having front height sensor issue you must have a late build 2003 with a regular relay not a solid state as shown in this video right?
@money89tractors10 жыл бұрын
Right. Its a normal relay just behind the headlight.
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
Yeah then I would replace the faulty height sensor first.
@money89tractors10 жыл бұрын
FordTechMakuloco i should still have a constant ground at the relay correct? and then a signal ground. . . . i have no constant. can i simple hard wire the constant ground to a known ground source? or is that constant ground controlled elsewhere? Thanks for the help.
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
If you have the new style relay it does not have a constant ground just two 12v inputs an output to the compressor and 1 switch ground.

+FordTechMakuloco it is 4 wheel drive, and it was the front that wasn't raising up. The battery just went dead and now the entire thing isn't working at all after battery change.

So the last small wire you test on the relay. If I jump the blue/pink (constant power) to the last wire black/yellow? and don’t get any light on my test light, what would be my problem?

I have an 00 Navigator. The rear sags intermittently once I have parked the car (sometimes it goes down, but other times it stays up). When I crank it and start driving again, everything works fine. Could this be a relay issue or something else I should check?

**i don't have a ride height problem ** i purchased a 02 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4: back in April 2016. the previous owner stated he had replaced the air ride compressor recently. He told me about an issue where the compressor will intermittently stop coming on (anywhere from 15-45 minutes of driving) and the check suspension light will illuminate on the dash.when that happens he said: turn off the truck and wiggle the air ride compressor relay and turn the truck back on which works but i can't keep stopping on a long trip every 30 minutes to wiggle the relay. what does this sound like to you

Great video. My 1998 Lincoln Navigator Air Suspension quit working and the idiot light is on constantly on the instrument panel. All bags are deflated. I did all the checks mentioned. The compressor works fine when I jump across the two huge wires, and the middle ground wire all checked out perfectly. I even replaced the relay even though it was not bad. My problem is I get nothing on the 4th wire (Control Module). I did it exactly as mentioned in the video and still nothing works. Where is the control module locate on my 1998 Navigator? How difficult is it to diagnose and to replace? I have a pretty good mechanics background, but have not be able to locate the module; I think its under the dash somewhere. Oh, by the way, the air suspension on/off switch checks out good too. What else can it be. Chiltons and Haynes are clueless. Thanks, MikeyD
@FordTechMakuloco10 жыл бұрын
The control module is located right above the radio, you just have to pull the trim panel off. There are many reasons the module may not be commanding the compressor on. You can check the wire from the module to the relay and after that you will need a scan tool to check height sensor voltage park input etc.
