Flare nut wrenches have helped me a lot before in similar situations. Like a box end but with a small opening so you can get it around fuel lines or wires. Also great for stuff that’s likely to round off. Thanks for the video trying to fix girlfriends tomorrow.

Thanks for the video, it gave me the motivation to do mine. I removed the bank 1 sensor 1 on my 2010 F-150 5.4 3V. What I found is it's easiest to unbolt the cat/exhaust heat shield, disconnect the downstream O2 sensor connector, shift the heat shield out of the way, disconnect the upstream sensor connector and finally unscrew it with a 7/8" crowfoot socket attached to a breaker bar.

THE PLUG WAS A BITCH TO GET BACK TOGETHER. WITH A WHOLE LOT OF PATIENTS I GOT THE JOB DONE.HOWEVER I FIND THAT FORD AND OTHER CAR MANAFACTURERS DONT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT WHAT IT TAKES TO DO SOME JOBS . Dealership did mine $84 labor. Check engine light wouldn’t turn off. There are 4 wires that connect the plug. The purple one wasn’t totally making a connection. Worked fine after. Make sure plug is making Contact on all pins. Mine was pushed into the rubber housing and wasn’t making a connection. Happy wrenchin

IF YOU’RE REPLACING THE PASSENGER SIDE UPSTREAM O2 SENSOR- Remove the transmission dipstick tube. (It’s one bolt that holds it) You will need- -An O2 offset socket. (From Amazon, $21.00 for a kit of three different ones) -3/8” pivoting ratchet/socket wrench. (Autozone, $35 dollars) Once the dipstick tube is removed it will take you 5 to 10 minutes to remove the upstream O2 sensor. But you must remove the tube first. I just did this tonight. Two days ago I had spent several hours trying to remove it without removing the dipstick tube and I couldn’t get it out. Tonight after I removed the tube it literally took 5 minutes to remove. I just want to help anyone get this done easily. Use the two tools I mentioned and it is very easy. The pivoting ratchet or socket wrench must be used. A regular socket wrench will not work. And of course get the special offset O2 socket. I tried a 7/8” box/open end wrench and there isn’t enough room on the passenger side.
@barrynash1126
@barrynash1126 4 ай бұрын
So, just to clarify, even if you DO remove the transmission dipstick tube, you still have to remove the sensor from the bottom, right? All you're doing is making a little more space underneath?
@wyattsdad8561
@wyattsdad8561 4 ай бұрын
@@barrynash1126 unfortunately yes.. and if that O-ring is hard you’ll need to get a new one. I had to buy a new dipstick for the tranny because I couldn’t find just the O-ring. And I didn’t want to get an O-ring that wasn’t made to resist heat and transmission fluid. 22 bucks at Autozone for the dipstick and new O-ring.
@wyattsdad8561
@wyattsdad8561 4 ай бұрын
@@barrynash1126 you need to remove the inner fender and the tranny dipstick. And you’ll need the offset socket and a ratchet that pivots. Do these things and the O2 sensor will be out in 2 to 5 minutes.

Wow thats a lot of work. Im lazy so im just gonna come from under it. This will be the 3rd replacement for bank 1 sensor 1. Im wondering if something is wrong with the cylinders or something else that will affect this sensor exclusively. Im no mechanic so idk really. What i do know is a service shop wanted to charge $1500 for a tune up. I did it for $250. However, im no mechanic so it took me 2 days to complete. Lol!

I have never heard of all 4 o2 sensors going bad at the same time.... the water out of the exhaust is normally not engine coolant, it's condensation from the hot gases leaving the combustion chamber. In cooler climates. Good luck!

That's a good question, when you say both o2 sensors are they both bank 1 sensors or both bank 2 or one on each bank both fronts both rears. The intake manifold could be cracked, or the gasket might have broke. Or you could have some coil packs that went bad.

@@amidwestfamily112 bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 2 Sensor 1 and I’ll take a look at intake and see if it’s cracked cuz it’s plastic it would be but it sounds like dog shit unless the after market injector are throwing to much fuel cuz both o2 sensor are saying stuck Rich…. Unless my purge valve broke or air sensor…it turns off sometime it doesn’t give me injector or coil code tho

@@amidwestfamily112 I actually got it! Perhaps I should do a video of how. Was much easier than I expected in the end. Put my wrench in the freezer and alternated between holding that on the O2 sensor nut and then spraying with WD40 and hitting O2 nut with a "punch" and hammer then a bit later heating up exhaust pipe near sensor but not on, hitting nut again with punch/hammer and then spraying with the WD. Alternated back and forth over about four hours while I did some things around the house. Patience and luck helped. Not too rusty to begin with so that helped too even though 180k mi. on the truck. Didn't even need to take off the tire or inner fender. Both O2 sockets I bought didn't help. Your video helped so thanks!
