My first car was a 1972 Mercury (in the U.S.) Capri 2.6 V6. I had high hopes of adding some "oomph" to the engine and flaring the fenders to accommodate the wide wheels and tires, etc. Alas, having no money to do these things, I just kept it clean and shiny. I miss that car.

Just brought back a blast from the past there. Drove a stock 3100 one a long time ago, was also lucky enough to drive the 2.8 Tickford. Back in those day’s you were doing well to have a 3.0 Capri as both them were very rare. Cheers for the video 👍✌️

Back in the 70’s I had three 3.0 Capris, 2 Mk1 and a Mk2. Blew the engine on the 2nd Mk1 so rebuilt it with a balanced bottom end, hot cam, virtually straight through exhaust etc! Sounded and went great! Remember giving a Maserati and Ferrari of the day bit of a shock up to around 100mph! Plan was to fit 3 twin choke down draft Webbers but got the bug for American Muscle cars and bought a V8 Camero! Was never as much fun as the Capri though!

I still remember my first time experiencing Capri 2.8. They’ve just came out and distant family member came from the Italy, where he use to live, with this car. Mind you average European car was like 4 cylinder between 1.0 and 1.6 L. This was 2.8 V6 monster. Looked so sporty and beautiful comparing it to average everyday econo cars you have had on the streets. It was like mix of American style meets something like Opel that again is owned by USA company but was like German brand. Sounded exotic, was fast and RWD. Person driving it was young male wearing flamboyant Italian clothing and driving it like it was stolen. He enjoyed it so much. I was a kid, very impressed one as well. He have had beautiful girlfriend to. I think I have wished t be like him when I grow up. That’s the impression I got because of that Capri.

Back in the '60s a buddy of mine wrecked his boss 302. The whole car was totaled except for the engine and transmission. I transplanted the boss 302 and the four-speed transmission from that into a capri like you see here. Wicked fast. Had to do extensive work on the front end on the suspension to get it to handle the added weight of a 302.
