Sounds so easy doesn’t it? Ford has to comply with the same government regulations as GM and Stellantis. Ford just started earlier and made more strategic moves to keep the V8 around. There’s a lot more that goes into it than people think…

Fort Knox Kentucky. April. 1964. Basic Training. Our platoon was marching on the Company Street when a brand new Ford Mustang “APPEARED”. We dared not break ranks…but there was a lot of “dog eyeing” that fantastic looking vehicle! :)

When they started, they were made for secretaries that were just starting out. The ad campaigns were emphasizing how affordable they were, and a lot of the parts came from other cars like the Falcon.

Ford needs better designers for the Mustang. They should use some of the 64 styling in the 60 anniversary model, to really bring back the good old days.

Well, that's true in my opinion. So many of the new cars (if you can find a CAR, not an SUV) have those slitty headlights and huge gaping frowning grill. They look constipated!

Great work Ford architects' & engineers, line workers & everybody involved. The introduction of the Ford Mustang was an exciting time for us that had just acquired our first drivers license even though we assumed our parents would not co-sign for us. Some that we knew got one & showed it off with pride. I now have the 2004 Truck of the Year, the FX4. It's still love it & it still runs & looks great. 😊👍👍

As I remember the 1971 had a 351 cu in with a 4 sp floor shift. It would quickly get to 120 mph , but the Plymouth Road Runner would go 200 mph with the 440 cu in I believe.

Road runner was all engine. The reason why you can’t find any challengers, super bees or roadrunners anymore because everything else was made with sticks and spit.

@@rayrussell6258 I would not be surprised if somehow they modified that by adding something once they see the market potential. If they did a new version of the Mustang Mach One , but only a 2 seater, that would be wicked. A remake of the Ford mid engine Pantera would also sell like crazy

I was on a dealer lot just looking at Mustangs recently, and three different cars slowed down on the street in front of the lot to yell out their window at me "TOO EXPENSIVE". It isn't "sticker shock". People are outright angry!

i used to own a 4th gen mustang, it was a 1996 model with the 3.8 L V6, producing 150 HP, forest Green color with manual transmission, it had the mufflers deleted and it had the rare tilt up sun roof that was an option from the dealership. it had over 220000 miles on it when i sold it, was a fun car and it never let me down.

Special ordered a '16 GT w/performance pack when there was ice on the ground in Feb '16. Arrived just in time for spring driving in April '16. Miss that car as it was a fun one, especially with the Recaro seats and most importantly, 6 speed manual.

I would assume yes, a 6 speed. It would be a sin for a 60th anniversary edition not to ONLY be available with a manual gearbox if it's only available with the tried and true 5.0L. Which if you ask me, was a shame when the 5.0L was dropped after 1993 when the fox body was retired although I get it, fuel economy was becoming increasingly of concern in the 80s and 90s when much of the big 3 was going to aerodynamic, I4 and V6 transverse FWD sedans.
