Not to be brand specific, but....I like Ram with the 6.7 Cummins. The only thing I wish I had was the Aisin Transmission. I drive the 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie and I pull a Grand Design Reflection that weighs 10,600 dry. The power of the Cummins is really good and it’s easy to work on. Once you take off the cover on the engine, everything is accessible. If I could afford any dually, I mean any, I would still stay with the Ram. I do wish though they would make the front axle wide like Ford’s. You cannot beat that turning ratio on the ford. Good Luck!
@nathansanders3479
@nathansanders3479 4 жыл бұрын
For towing the power of the ford you just can't beat it the Rams are second place for towing. But the they have had the 6.7l so long and the inline 6 very reliable motor. The gm the alison transmission is one of the best built trannys out there. They all have there pros and cons. I'd meet in the middle with the ram. Plus the reseller value is amazing on the ram. Once I get a new trailer I'm getting the ram. And you can always get tuners for it as well if you want a bit more power. Definitely if you get the ram. Get the Aisin transmission with the high output motor. Regular Chrysler transmission is not the greatest transmission. Good luck on your alls search for a truck.

I'm personally looking at these trucks for my toy hauler, and right now it's either an F-450 or a Ram 3500 max cab long bed. I haven't given GM a look in years after so many issues with ambulances and work trucks sitting on Chevy 3500 Duramax chassis.

I think Rams are such amazing trucks nowadays and seem to have lots of little features you would never expect, that make life much easier and come to love. Very exciting watching you guys in the process of a new rig. I'm a die hard chevy guy but cant ignore the fact that they've slumped since '07 across the lineup. Good luck!

I personally would go New RAM (disclosure, I have owned 2 HD RAM’s and love them!). The warranty, financing options, latest safety tech etc. would be my number one reason for choosing this option. Many mechanic friends with loyalty to all the different brands have told me they all have their good points and their problems and it almost works out the same in the end. Good luck shopping! Love your channel!

Cummins is know for its reliability and it’s know for its Inline 6 that is amazing for pulling overall its you decision and your money but Cummins has served me and my friends and my family and many others around the world great luck!

In 2017 I had an pretty bad fall and broken my leg among other injuries. But I layed in bed for 2 years researching which truck to get to haul my camper. I ended up getting a 2019 ram 3500 high output Cummins with the Aisin transmission. Love it but if you go with ram Don't get the 68rfe transmission, they just had a recall on them, definitely get the Aisin with 1,000ft lbs torque. Good luck guys and stay healthy 👍

Hey guys! Great video!! I own a contracting business for over a decade and have ran all the major truck brands on my business full time. Here’s what I can tell you... They all break, Dodge, Ford, GMC and Chevrolet. They all have short comings. We tow anywhere from 6k to 32k lbs 3-5 times a week with our work trucks and what I learned the hard way is, ALWAYS have a warranty. If you plan on keeping the truck for 5 years, make sure you have a warranty to cover you bumper to bumper for those 5 years. That’s what we do and I sleep like a baby every night. BTW, we currently own 2 GMC 3500 DRW and 2 F350 DRW. Good luck 👍🏽

Okay just to put my two cents in. I have a 2007 Dodge Dually mega cab. When I bought it at 20,000 miles on it 5 9 Cummins with the six-speed manual. The thing I like about the Cummins the most is it is an inline 6 now look at most semis they are all inline 6 nowadays. The inline 6 will give you more bottom-end torque than any V8 could ever do from the factory. Now you want to talk about longevity. When I bought this truck with only 20,000 miles on it it had pulled campers around to dealers from the factory I purchased it and hooked it up to a 40-foot gooseneck flatbed trailer. Between the trailer and the truck it was licensed to gross 36000 lb. It never once faltered in any way shape or form being loaded down. If I went out west through the mountains I would drop maybe one gear. Oh and I'm running 3:55 gears in the rear end. My truck currently has are you ready for this 523000 on it and still running strong. Doesn't matter what I say or anybody else says ultimately it's what you two prefer. Best of luck and God bless.

I love what he told you about the wide track steering in the f450, as a 3 time powerstroke owner, 7.3, 6.4, and now the 6.7. The 6.7 powerstroke 13 and up are game changers for us that pull... Ford all the way!!!

I think you made a good chiose witch motor does it have ? I personally would have went to a 550 with a cummings myself for the size trailer . The powerstroke needs a $700 chip to pull your trailer right but the powerstroke blows gally plugs about every 40k .i know from experience driving and instantly the winshield covered in oil International has a good motor but they have one quirk you set them for power and they eat fuel and get hot or you set thrm for eqonimy and they are slgish on power but get 35 mpg and run for 500k miles

Went through this process recently. Pulling a 16,000 5th wheel toy hauler. Had a 2006 GMC Duramax short bed. Did the job, but upgraded to a used 2015 Ram with the Aisin. The Ram had just under 50,000 miles, tradesmen package with all the tow options and 3.73 gears. Drove from Utah to Kellogg Idaho after looking for 6 months to pick it up. Under 41,000. Very happy with the purchase, the only complaint is the turning radius, but you guys already know this coming from an 8 foot 4 door dually. These new trucks are very impressive.

I had been a Chevy truck owner for a couple of decades, and then switched to a Ford 3/4 ton back in the 90's. I owned it from brand new, and had it for 17 years, and took exceptionally good care of it, and still got a good $ for it when I sold it. Since I had such good luck with it, I went with a Ford F450 in 2012 with a 2009 King Ranch, added a programmer, and it had about 500+ horsepower, and pulled our slide in Arctic Fox camper & slide, for several years, and our 18' trailer behind that with toys. It was the most comfortable truck I'd ever owned, had all the options one could want, and....as you've seen, the turning radius was amazing! Two years ago, I ended up selling my truck, which was hard to do as we both loved it, but decided to go with a diesel pusher motorhome, so the 'need' for the truck changed, and again I got an excellent deal when I sold it. So now the comfort of the motorhome (Tiffin) is our means of travelling in comfort, and the first time in decades that I've not had a truck! I had great luck with my Chevy's (gas) and great luck with my (diesel) Fords. My brother has a 2015 Ram, and he's had numerous recalls, and more issues than I'd ever put up with, but he loves it, so truly it's hard to go wrong with any of the brands now, so long as you do your research. Don't be afraid of going a good distance if you find the perfect truck (I went over 2000 miles for my F450) as I had particular options I wanted, and went the distance to get each and every one of them, and it worked out for me! Best of luck you two, and stay safe!

I have owned Chevy trucks since i was 22yrs old. Not going to say how old i am now lol, but i have had 5 different Chevy trucks since. After buying my first tt and towing it for 1 season with a 1500 half ton Silverado i realized i needed to upgrade to 3/4 ton truck at least. After many trips to MANY dealers i am now driving a F250 Superduty diesel and love it. Here i thought i was brand loyal all those years. Point is get what you like, and can afford, but most important what you know will handle that big beautiful 5th wheel. Good luck and i absolutely loved the video. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with. Safe travels.

Douglas Tong I got a quote a while back from Dennis Dillon on a 2018 RAM 3500 Laramie diesel/AISIN crew cab 4wd dually and it came in at $13-14K under MSRP. No muss, no fuss, no negotiation, no games. Took quote to local dealer to see if he could come close, as I’d rather buy local if the price is close to comparable. Best the local dealer could do was about $6K off MSRP. I’d fly to Idaho any day to save $7K on a new truck.

I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Dually Limited that I purchased new and have around 30,000 miles on it. Always garaged and always baby'd, it looks better than new with custom wheels, I have entertained the idea of selling it because I really don't need it and looking to get into a short bed single rear wheel.

We bought a RAM 3500 High Output SRW with the aisan transmission Laramie ( lots of bells and whistles ) tows over 24000 lbs. has the self leveling bed, surround camera and 1000 lbs of torque ....... Dealer took 18k off the sticker. Were only at 16k miles on it, no problems. It tows our 14lb 5th wheel and does a great job doing it.

Great review and discussion with JD. We did a LOT of KZbin surfing and watched a bunch of videos before we mad a decision. The discussion between JD and KYD was my favorite and helped me decide on the truck we now own. While the new Chevy/GMC trucks have more towing capacity, I wasn’t impressed with the fact that they (the manufacturer) didn’t do anything to spruce up the interior over previous models. The RAM dually was a major contender, however the dealers in our area (Columbus, OH) only had two or three on their lots so we never did find a truck with all the bells and whistles we wanted. Richard Ford, just north of Groveport, OH, had a couple dozen dually’s and at least a dozen F-450 2019 models on the lot. JD’s right, after driving the 2019 F-450 none of the other vehicles we test drove were anywhere close to the handling capabilities that the F-450 had. My wife has a Lexus 400H (hybrid) and believe it or not, the F-450 Limited Edition actually rides quieter than her Lexus does. Granted the truck is a much firmer ride, but I actually enjoy the comfort and all the features that came with that truck over any of the previous trucks I’ve owned. Additionally she actually doesn’t mind driving the truck, but hasn’t had the chance to drive it with our 43 foot 2020 Riverstone Legacy attached yet. Best of luck in your new Truck Journey and please don’t skimp on the power end of the Truck+RV equation.

Best of luck and miles when searching for your New Dually Truck. I own a 2008 Cheveolet Silverado with Duramax Diesel & Allison Transmission. 160K miles. 4X4. Wouldn’t trade or sell unless I had to. I maintain the maintenance service. Have never had a major problem. Bought it from a friend while still in college, I knew I had to have “that” truck. It pulls my RV and horse trailer. Love the Quad cab and space. Especially the 8’ bed. Praying for your journey to your new truck. Happy Trails!!

Had them all go with the f350 or f450! You won’t regret it! I know tow ratings and all the safety Jazz the tow police always talk about. But even the single rear wheel trucks will pull your trailer fine. But I’d recommend a dually especially since you guys are fulltiming and towing a lot. The big difference with all the new trucks from what you have is the don’t heat up and struggle to tow the big trailer. The are designed to pull the heavy weight and not overheat and be as stressed.

I selected the Ram after owning Fords and Chevy's my whole life. My last 3 trucks have been Ram's 2002 1/2T 6cyl stick, that one was cheap I bought a leader truck new for only 13K, then in 2005 I upgraded to a 2006 model 3/4 T longbed 4 door Cummins because I was pulling a 30' TT. I bought a 2015 I bought a 39' Montana 5th wheel and my truck I added airbags to it and it was really on the outer parameters of the truck capability. In 2018 I was able to afford to buy a Ram 1T DRW longbed 4 door, Cummins Laramie with the tow/haul package. It has a very tight turning radius, set up really nice for towing, very comfortable seating, especially for those long drives. The deciding factor for me was my son's dad who is a diesel mechanic advised me against the Ford in 2005 because their valves in their diesels could not be adjusted and the Cummins could. So there you have it, basic maintenance, a valve adjustment, could not be done. So I took the leap to the Cummins. Now I would not have any other truck. I am extremely happy with the 2018 Ram 1T DRW, long bed (no slider hitch), quad cab Cummins that I have. I have the 4.10 rear end and sure it gets a little less mileage than my 2006 Cummins and I have to put the DEF in it, but the trade off is well worth it. It is a real pleasure driving the truck everyday use and when I pull that 5th wheel, you barely feel it and it is solid, even in winds, rain, curves, grades and so forth. I don't think they are selling a lot of cars right now so they may be willing to give you some great deals. Do not discount a new truck, they might be able to make it financially within your means. Never hurts to ask. Safe travels to you and whatever you get, make sure it feels right when your in the seats.

totally agree, the Freightliner (single dual rear wheels) will last much longer than any Ford,Dodge or Gm. You can literally put around 1,000,000 miles on the International before having to rebuild the engine or transmission. Much stronger built too.

Here in CA, in French Camp on I-5. I saw some 400k mile 2 axle tractors with a 48 sleeper. These are trucks that go a million miles or more before overhaul. And can tow a 60,000# plus trailer. So a 20,000# trailer would be like driving empty. Of course an air brake endorsement to a class licence may be required in your home state. Some states will allow a tractor registered as a recreational vehicle to not have a class A license. But a new Ram 4500 tradesman chassis cab could work too.

I bought a 99 F250SD Lariat 7.3L Powerstroke when it was brand new. I knew I was going to pull a large 5th wheel (03 33ft 5th-Wheel Alumascape). I still have the truck. I have 240,000 miles on it and it is just now getting into some larger repairs - like the air-conditioning and the power steering pump (that thing whined from the first day I got it). The truck is still pulling our 5th-wheel, although now it is time to trade up.

This truck has been well maintained, hate to get rid of it, but health is an issue, you know ("The Big C"). We also have a 2016 5th wheel with all of the extras, a Winnebago Destination 40 ft with 5 slides, only been lightly used, 5 trips, one long one and rest just local, it still has the plastic on the carpets. This is a question for J.D. but you should add to your considerations. I am looking at F350/450. You mention a 3.73 or 4.10 assuming an older F-350 would be a 6 speed. I want the 10 speed but which rear end ratio do you suggest with the 350? 3.55 3.73 or 4.10. The F450 comes with a 4.30 ratio. I will be pulling a 20000 pound GVW fifth wheel which is similar in weight to Tom and Cheri.

After posting my comment about my F350, and saw a lot of people talk about the F450. I think the 450 is an awesome truck. If you decide to get a 450 check your state registration and insurance because if it’s like where I live in Pa. it is considered a commercial vehicle and that means more money each year for registration and insurance. Just a thought. I really like you guys and hope to meet up with you on road someday! Take care and be safe!

I have owned Ford, Chevy and Ram. All have been good, so far for me the Ram has had the least amount of issues. I think people may have had a bad experience in the past and it effects the future decisions they make. All brands have been improving their quality on a yearly basis. With that said, I would go for the best option you can get on a new vehicle. The quality of a vehicle made 7 years ago will not match the quality of vehicles made today.
