My perfect 3 car garage would be a mint Escort 1600 Sport as a daily, Cortina XR6/3.0S to have fun with and a Sapphire Cosworth or Sierra XR8 as my Sunday cruiser.

I had the 1981' 3.0GLS which is basically the same but with power steering and the steering wheel was adjustable so the XR6 steering wheel will also be adjustable. I drove it for 25 years without any problems after which my son bought it from me in 2006 and he drove it for 4 years before selling it. The price was R8500 new.

It's not that, people aren't as open minded when it comes to seeing a person of average status make their way up in the world honestly. Sadly a superiority complex is the downfall of mankind. God is great though and if Niyaaz has a clean heart, the almighty will see him through regardless of what people think. These are honest attempts at reviewing vehicles from a lay man's point of view. Hi sir. Loved the video. I'm 50something and it was right from my era as a 'laightie'. We used to drool over these cars, back in durban. They were horrendously fast, brakes very dicey and handing suspect, so that it needed real skill to push them hard. But when u did it was super rewarding. U didnt mention it was the definitive SA Cop Car !! If u saw one in your rear view mirror you had better start behaving on the road, best pull to the left because u were not going to outrun them, the cops just knew how to handle them!! Keep up the good work, watched many of your videos, very entertaining. 👌👌

Don't see many of these in such a good and well looked after condition anymore. Even fewer owners looking to preserve them like that. I now also understand why so many people have advised me to keep my restoration project, a 1975 Granada, as close to original as possible. Besides the fact that the car has been in the family for 45 years it is like driving in a time capsule. There is just another level of pure enjoyment when driving a little piece of history like that.

A firm favourite in the 80s without doubt, I remember very vividly going for a spirited ride in one back in the day and the lasting impression was one of being very fearful, the road holding was atrocious but they had an attractive exhaust note , were reasonably priced and they towed well, they were reliable, easy to maintain and looked quite cool and that was that, pretty crudely engineered with bad fit and finish, lightyears behind a Mercedes Benz or BMW of the time

I used to own a South African 3.0 litre P100 cortina, smokey burnouts on eight ply truck tyres used to be the norm,as was the need for opposite lock with any camber change under power😁,roundabouts were a good bit of fun too! The differences between European and SA models apart from the Essex was stronger springs and shocks,a six inch shorter body from the wheels back, the rear lights were mounted under the tailgate, the rear cab window opened and they were OE fitted with weller 8 spokes and a significant nudge bar,but the thing I could never work out was why it had two factory fitted functioning hazard light switches next to each other???

Wasn't only big in Cape Town, I think.in all the "coloured areas" in SA. I moved up from Durbs to Reiger Park in Boksburg in the mid 80'' Those dudes were crazy for their Fords. Everyone was trying to outdo the next by flaring the arches with thicker tyres and even more outrageous spoilers. My brother had the XLE Big Six. Beautiful darkish blue, I think.they called it petrol blue. He did very little to it except change the front spoiler and add tyres with white writing on them. That car had some serious speed. PS. I once saw a bumper sticker on a jaloppy Ford 30s that read "This car has hidden powers but I'm still looking for it"

If he sells this car to anyone else, it will become another pivilion special/ burnout/ spinning special or some beat up cortina on the road crunching gears with "wannebe" double clutching. Good on this owner for looking after this car. This is the kind of owner locally needed in preserving the local car heritage. Others won't value it the same way, knowing the driving culture locally with door "dings", chips, worn out seats, scratches, loose door hinges and misaligned panels. One more statement, different colour panels as well...... Great car, great owner and great choice liberebil.

Gears and brakes are hard because it's a Cortina🤣it's not necessarily a classic car thing, jump in a old French car like a Peugeot 404, Citroen DS and there's a world of difference in terms of comfort and handling, responsive brakes, you can select gears with one finger. I'm not dissing the Ford though, there's still many other reasons to love the Cortina and not to mention that amazing Essex exhaust note.
