To be fair, I am an automobile technician and business owner. Yes, I am self employed and understand that a newer car isn't necessarily a better one. In fact, it's the newer vehicles that keep me busy. I personally own 6 vehicles. The longest running ones are: a 2004 GMC Yukon XL SLT, 5.3L/4L60E/2WD with 274,900 as of today. I also own a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban LT, 8.1L/4L80E/4WD with 224,700 miles on the clock. BOTH vehicles sport completely original powertrains and show no apparent signs of deterioration. The 8.1L truck does use a little oil (about 1qt every 6K if driven on secondary roads exclusively, 2 quarts if significant highway driving is thrown into the mix.), but that's par for the course as I have observed over the years in both mine and customers trucks. Lastly, I own a 2001 Acura CL Type S with 323, 000 miles on the original engine, but second transmission to date. I wouldn't trade any of them for the newer offerings, though. They don't seem to be engineered to last beyond 5-7 years without a major failure. It's a shame, really.

I had a 2005 Colorado. Things were starting to go bad ,needed new break systems .I traded it in on a fully loaded 2020 Escape and I love it . Except for the recalls of course lol I'd never owned a fully loaded vehicle Better not to know what you're missing .It has the smaller engine but it's surprisingly peppy and useful for its size .My driver side door is in the process of being replaced. My advice is buy a vehicle from the nearest dealership lol

Define 'abuse them' I have an idea but wouldn't mind a little clarification. That does include replacing struts and so forth when needed. Between me and 2 friends of mine who also work on vehicles we have our own lists of vehicles that we will never buy. I wish I could name them right now but I have a migraine messing with my memory recall.

My new Toyota Corolla Cross just sits beside her wanting to be driven, but I rather drive my Caravan. Proudly made in St. Louis Mo. Cant drive two at the same time. Call me old fashioned. Burns about 1/2 a liter/ 3,000Km/ oil change time. Tranny is perfect, and original. I suck out about 2 liters every 8,000 km and she runs as good as new. Sadly this will probably be the last vehicle that I will own and be RELIABLE. Parts are cheap now too ( she is old as you know). Happy Motoring folks in Canada.

They just have to have the $70000 Ford pickup that's got trouble with a capital T in its history because they need to look cool in front of their mates instead of the $2000 Corolla with proven reliability history and is all they really need to get to work and home everyday, will probably last them another 5 years with minimal trouble and when it does is something relatively minor and inexpensive to get parts for and repair.

Nissan Rogue lefted me stranded twice regarding tranmission issues. Wouldn't take it if you gave it to me. First time was under warranty but the second time nope. Get this NOBODY wanted it as a trade in ,Nobody ! I had to have it towed. I brought a 2013 BMW X3 it died also, dealer tried to replace with a used ,it didn't work,so they had to replace with a New tranmission, so they stole it and sold it to another customer, when i came up there they lied,so i used my keyfab to show it was there and their liars. Auto City in Tx true crooks.

The two flaws in this analysis, and the misperception of most customers is that: - (A) - a premium-line brand is going to be 'more reliable'; (B) - an SUV is going to be 'more rugged and durable'... MANY manufacturers use the exact same drivetrain in their upscale vehicles as in the lower-priced brands. Toyota and Lexus are a prime example, where on many models the same engine and powertrain in the Toyota models is exactly the same as in their Lexus models... If anything they are more loaded with electronics and options that are more likely to fail over time... SUV's also use the same engines and drivetrains as their non-SUV models, with the addition of AWD capability. They won't be 'more rugged'. If anything, with the extra weight and higher wind resistance, there's going to be more load, and thus faster wear on their engines and drivetrains, in addition to worse fuel economy that's a given...

not a fan of any four cylinder engine and think turbo chargers are just asking for problems, and a 3 cylinder just is not what I want in a 4x4 vehicle. I like a good solid v6 with a long history of being trouble free.
@HR-wd6cw29 күн бұрын
For 4WD/4x4 vehicles turbos and 4 cylinder or even 6 cylinder engines don't make sense, and one reason I don't understand why manufacturers are dumping their V8's for 4 and 6 cylinder turbo engines. Most V8's were bullet proof (although some, from Ford and Chevy, had issues). But like the Toyota Tundra V8 was discontinued, and replaced with a turbo 6 cylinder which I don't understand. Same for the Tacoma (although I think you can still order a V6, but the standard now seems to be a turbo 4 cylinder).

I don't agree with the idea that CVT gear boxes are unreliable in general. Toyota has also been using CVT's for quite a few years and they proved to be fairly reliable. I don't particularly like Nissans but they are not the worst SUV's on the market.

Rogues, trucks that cost as much as two Rogues, Civic’s and Tesla’s are rampant. BUT, if there are three cars, one of them will be a Subaru Crosstek. It’s amazing.

GM is also not using quality parts, in its other systems either. If you A/C looses it charge, it is probably do to a leaking evaporator. This requires complete disassembly of the dash to replace, with the final repair cost being around $2,000.00. And of course, they replace it the the same poor quality part.

Some people don't always know what they want when it comes to reliability. People just buy it for here and their features and they completely ignore the rest. They don't think about the long-term investment of their hard earn dollar. When buying a new vehicle, it's best to do a thorough inspection of how well the vehicle was designed and built. There shouldn't be any compromise when you think about value. If it doesn't look right nor feels right after a thorough inspection. Chances are the vehicle was never designed right to begin with and therefore NOT worth the investment. Never settle for less than what the vehicle has to offer. Attentions to detail are critical when buying a new or use vehicle. Does the value of the vehicle worth its weight in the long run are what you or anyone should be thinking about before shelling out a huge investment into a new vehicle. The long-term cost of maintenance also plays a critical role. Every piece of the vehicle has to look right and are in the proper layout that just made sense in logical terms. You want to get your moneys worth well past the manufacturer warranty. Otherwise, there's just no point in getting a new or use vehicle.

My optometrist bought a 2024 Dodge Ram truck. One morning taking his 3 children to school, the brakes went out. He pulled onto the grass easement to slow down, but then the children noticed flames under the truck. They all bailed the truck and ran to safety. The truck burned continiously to the bones. Come to find out, the gas plug built into the fuel tank can hold over a liter of diesel and gets hot and can burn the truck down. Unbelievable!

When you have a brand new car and it breaks down during the first few years of its buying term, always use the term it’s a manufacturer defect. The dealer cannot argue with you because it’s true that it was the manufacturers fault that this issue occurred
@rogerdonoho49243 күн бұрын
The worst part about these troubles is that every manufacturer has known about them for many years. The cvt transmissions from nissan, and cylinder deactivation engines from gm. I dont understand why they do nothing about them. Reliability is the greatest reputation any of them could ever strive for. Less technical assemblies from their pasts had good reputations.
