Would love to see "before and after" photos of how the car sits pre- and post new rear springs to compare any difference in ride height. My 08 has 168,000 miles and I'm considering new rears and maybe new fronts. Also a little tip for removing and re-installing new springs (on any solid axle, coil spring vehicle really) - just use your jack under the opposite end of the axle you're working on...jacking up the opposite side makes the side you're working on droop very low and the springs will slide in and out easy, no compressor or spreaders needed. A trick I learned from my days of Jeeping.

Thank you for the great tip - I'll have to use that next time! As for photos, sorry, I didn't take any. "Eyeballing" it, I would say it's approximately the same, probably within 1/2" or so. I think next time I'd opt for springs that are 1-2" taller.

Here's a tip when installing or removing springs from these cars... Say you need to slide the spring in/out and to need an extra 3 or 4inches to clear... Have a jack on the opposite side of the axle and jack it up on that side and it will push the side your working on down to give you more room

One thing to note is seeing the wider coils at one end these are variable rate, the original coils are all constant rate.

Hey Gary, I like how you used that strap on the coil spring before unloading it. I've heard folks say those things can shoot off like a rocket when you're least expecting it. So, what did you do to get the new sway bar bushing on? -Chris

Cut through the bushings on the side. Then you can pull them apart just enough to slip over the sway bar. They will tighten up nicely with the u-clamp on them. 98 Grand Marquis.

When cutting springs it's supposed to be 1 inch of free length height = 2 inches of ride height difference. This means if the old spring 15 inch free length height would need a 15.5 inch new spring for 1 inch of higher ride height. I am betting the new springs would be 16 inches free height and you got 2 inches of height increase from the old ones.

I have a 2001 Grand Marquis LS and I swapped out the air springs for coil springs. I got a spring compressor tool and compressed them from 18" to 14" and install them. No removing sway bar or shocks. fits great. complete job to me 1 hour.
