Those patterns and mouldings can be either part of the parabolic reflector or if the parabolic reflector is smooth they’ll be on the lens. It’s one or the other. Sending some of the light off to illuminate the kerb can be done by either. The fact that it’s a ‘flat beam’ is not a result of the technology used, rather of the beam pattern design.

Looking forward to seeing this vehicle on the road hopefully also the V8 P6 & Vi will be up & running. I don’t like under-seal or wax oil unless it’s a repair job far better to use ACF50 you can also coat all the mechanical’s suspension brake & fuel lines it will dissolve light surface rust leaving a protective coat and help prevent seizure of parts it’s easy to re-coat and doesn’t trap moisture like waxes or bitumen based products.

With the oil, 5W20 is correct. The oil return passages are too small for the 30 weight to work. The oil collects in the valve cover and the bottom end is wrecked. With the underside of that car looking like that, invest the cash into having it treated by Krown Rustproofing. They do an amazing job. Done in the autumn and left until spring, it will preserve the floor pans and frame very well indeed. That is how the body on my 1990 Volvo is so good. The other thing on a Panther is to install mudflaps behind the front wheels. Just the geometry involved on them, the grit thrown back and into the frame behind the back wheels scours everything off the frame rails and they rot. The rot from the inside out and the outside in. The rust meets in the middle and suddenly you have a whole were solid metal used to live. Being a P71 car, it has the Police Package frame. There is additional gussets to reinforce the welds. The torque boxes (the boys structure you showed) are larger and shaped differently than other Panthers. My 89 Mercury Grand Marquis came with the upgraded frame because of the towing package and 6,000 pound tow rating. Count yourself lucky. Only one drain plug. The Windsor engines in the older ones had a dual sump oil pan. Had to drain both.
@Landie_Man2 жыл бұрын
It’s incredible how much crap comes out after the draining appears to stop. On a less windy day, consider leaving it dripping overnight. You can get an extra half pint of crap out!

For future reference, when doing an oil change, you might want to turn the wheels fully to the left. This'll help get the pitman arm out of the way when accessing the oil filter. As far as oil goes, pick your favorite ACEA A3/B4 rated oil and call it a day. While 5W-30 was the default standard for a while, Middle East exports spec'd 20W-40 before Motorcraft discontinued it and 10W-30 became the new standard right through to model year 2012. A 5W-40 HDEO meeting API CK-4/SN and ACEA E9 would be a decent choice IMHO.

About the front headlights, that's not really correct. The beam pattern is actually made by the reflector on the rear side. On the Freelander the headlight is "lens optic" type, as you mentioned the lens direct the light and makes the pattern. On the Crown Vic, it's the "reflector optic" type, where the rear reflector makes the pattern. Besides having a "left hand drive" and a "right hand drive" pattern, there are also two different kinds of beam patterns/cut-off-shapes. The one used in the US, is usually referred to DOT pattern, while the one used in the EU called ECE. The main different between the two is; in the US-DOT version the cut off line is straight going from one side to the other, with a kink in the middle, while in the EU-ECE version, only one side is straight, and from the middle point the other side it's slightly angled upwards.

Flush that power steering with some fresh synthetic transmission fluid, (not power steering fluid). Get rid of that whine and keep that pump going for a long time. This stuff is great man. She's a beauty, get her undercoated better and IN the rocker's and frame etc, (nhoil, woolwax, fluidfilm) or whatever is around your part of the world. I do recommend UP and over the rear wheel well from the inside (yank the door sills). They didn't roll the lip on the rear on these like they did the later years and it catches a lot of crud as well.

i think where you mention about the flat beam on the headlight its the internal part that dictates the beam but most light with no pattern on the lens the beam will be central not handed - motorcycles have been like this for years and with leds now as you cant point them the beam just points straight
@In_memory_of_Dad2 жыл бұрын
I see under the Crown Vic she's got a fair bit of harmless surface rust? Maybe you should invest in a good coating of wax seal underneath her just to protect her from the elements and keep her in top condition? It's what I would do if she were mine. And it's always worth having it done professionally and that way they get in all the nooks and crannies and it's doesn't just seal but it lubricates as well. I see Ian at Hubnut has just had his little Citreon done. It's well worth the money and time it takes to have it done and it protects the car for years.
