Autobiographical short story from my book "I wouldn't value it at that" about my exploits as a scrap metal dealer in the 1990s. This time i clear some lorries from an engineering workshops yard, getting into the usual daft scrapes.

I'm laughing as you recall your escapades. It reminds me of my own antics back in the 80s. You can't get away with anything like this now, keep the videos coming.

Brilliant reminds me of my own cunning plans I used to get upto in the early 2000s. Can’t get away with half the stuff anymore. I remember needing to take a lorry into London that I’d sold and been paid to deliver no MOT so I went down to garret gree Dvla office and registered it as a recovery vehicle to tax it and run it into the back of portabello road. Can’t get away with that these days.

Good evening. Cheers for watching the video. Was a great way around things back then. Just fitting an ancient Harvey Frost to a vehicle got things sorted. Take care.

Our d series recovery kept failing the brake test on oval rear drums so we too decided to exempt it and put it on recovery tax at £75 a year i think, anyway a nice little mk3 ransid recovery turned up so we decided to sell the d so advertised it on autotrader for £500,we soon had a buyer and he told us it was off to africa ,soon after we found out the warn winch we let go with it that i had reconditioned with mini starter solenoids was worth more than £500 on its own Oh well life is a learning curve

I did something similar. Later on in the stories i will tell of an Iveco 55-10 lorry i had. That was fitted with a Ramsey electric winch which was pretty good. I foolishly sold the truck complete with the winch for less than the winch was really worth on it's own. As you say, we learn. Best winch i ever had i still have and that is a Pearce hydraulic one fitted to a tilt and slide body. In 20 years i never found any car or small commercial it would not drag. Biggest thing i ever loaded with it was a Belarus 4x4 tractor with flat tyres.
