God Bless You Man, I acknowledge the swearing is very much warranted. You have just saved me huge expense and frustration. You best know the swearing on my end if videoed would be a continuous BLEEP. I'm not a Ford fan but I now find myself owning 2 of them. When they are running their OK, nothing to write home about. average ride and handling, so so comfort. Also the fuel economy sucks, marginally better than my 5.7L Hemi. My 2009 with 220,000 is probably headed for the scrap man. Oh by the way mine is rusted out just like yours. Just like you I end up becoming an expert on the vehicles I own. Mine is due for the water pump real soon, so I'm about ready to throw in the towel. Good luck with yours, that's if it is still going 2 years later. Cheers

Thanks man, I’ve been a ford guy since before I could drive but their quality has went down hill so much in the last 20 years it’s terrible. I bought this edge in 2013 with 71k miles and now I’m just about to 240,000. The whole frame is completely rusted out, subframe is going, the cheap pos ptu I put in there is already leaking horribly. Exhaust is rusted off and cobbled together lol. We’ve been looking at other cars and brand and nothing really seems worth what they’re asking now days. I think those ecoboost engines are absolutely garbage and a waste of money. Thanks for watching my video and thanks for the comment man! I appreciate it. Good luck with your edge, I hope you can get some more use out of it before she dies

I successfully converted my car to FWD. you need to remove the driveshaft, open the transfer case and remove two of the gears and keep the pinion for the output (for sealing) and the input gear (for supporting the INTERMEDIATE shaft). use the original AWD intermediate shaft. fill the transfer case with fresh gear oil and your good to go. I also put a bunch of sillicone around the area where the transfer case mates to the transmission. You do not need to loosen or remove the subframe on the ford fusion to remove the PTU. this process I mentioned should be the same for all fords of similar era and similar PTU

You’re lucky, I love those cars. Always wanted one. Truthfully I don’t think it would be a good idea to have something with that much power as fwd. I’m surprised you’ve had 2 ptus in only 50k miles tho. My first one lasted me 204k

you could possibly create a plate that you mount over the whole that has a hole cut out in it to mount a FWD seal and sillicone the plate down.

Did your ptu grind try to figure out if the trans or the ptu shifts in to 2 gear and starts grinding
@T-MillProductions10 ай бұрын
Mine blew up all over the driveway. My wife backed out and it made a bad grinding noise and drove it back in and there was a huge hole where the idler came apart. Most likely your ptu is the problem because if it was a transmission it would throw a check engine light for 1st gear or second gear incorrect ratio.

I have a 2012 ford edge. I converted my AWD to FWD. but now i keep getting a yellow 🔧 warning on the dashboard and my car dies while driving, only for it to disappear after restarting the car. This happens often. I was wondering if you faced the same issue and any tips on how to get it fixed. Thanks.
@T-MillProductions Жыл бұрын
How did you end up converting yours to fwd? When I pulled out my ptu the hole in the transmission was way bigger then the fwd one and the seal wouldn’t fit so I had to get a new ptu and keep the fwd. I know In the rear end there is a sensor for the awd that I think had to be taken out.
@codyduzit Жыл бұрын
@@T-MillProductions Hi, thanks for replying. I honestly don’t know much about the mechanical side of things but the mechanic that worked on it said something along the lines of disconnecting the AWD. There was an irreparable damage to my AWD ptu. He said replacing it was going to be costly and since I’m not much of an off road guy, he suggested converting it to FWD was a good temporary and cost effective fix. He removed a long steel pole/shaft from underneath, and said that i can reinstall it that whenever i have a new ptu part available. I hope this made sense. Now the care seemingly drives reasonably good, but at least once a day I’d have that wrench light warning come on and my car dies, then it works fine after restarting the car a few minutes later. It’s annoying. Any tips? Did this happen to you or heard of another ford owner with the same issue? As far as i read, wrench light warning in ford vehicles indicate a problem with the AWD.
@T-MillProductions Жыл бұрын
You’re welcome man, that’s weird that it does that to you. Did he leave your old PTU in or did he take it out? I think the shaft he’s referring too is the driveshaft that goes to the rear end. Of that comes out it will throw a wrench light but idk how it would still drive if the old ptu was still in it If it was bad. Mine actually blew a hole in the side of the case and poured gear oil everywhere in the driveway lol. I got mine off of Amazon for 500 bucks back in 2021. Idk what the cost now but maybe it would be worth it to buy one

@semoalmaleh28132 жыл бұрын
It will work with no issue, all you need is remove two of the gears inside the ptu and leave only the one connected to right axle shaft. Check ou this video fro my friend's car kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGeYhqpofKmJj6c
@semoalmaleh28132 жыл бұрын
You could also remove both rear axle shafts, the rear diff, the driveshaft if you want. If you do that, you ganna need new aligment for rear tires and enjoy the FWD :)

Could I add awd to my fwd 2014?
@T-MillProductions2 ай бұрын
I think you can but you would have to buy a lot of parts to make it work, rear differential, both rear axles, ptu, all the front brackets, driveshaft, and I think a few other things
@kal-ms6mj10 ай бұрын
Brother... all you have to do is take the drive shaft from the transfer case to the ptu off and that's it lol..no need to add or do anything. Mines running with out the drive shaft .. simple
@T-MillProductions10 ай бұрын
Um no that’s not true lol and it’s not that simple. The idler bearing in my ptu came apart and put a nice big hole in my ptu case and leaked all the oil out lol. No way I could have left that since the passenger front axle goes into the passenger side of the ptu
@iconicxotics368929 күн бұрын
this is exactly what i was wondering. like why not just remove the shaft and let it spin freely? I have an 07 and it looks like i can just yank the dang thing and leave it alone lol
@kal-ms6mj29 күн бұрын
@T-MillProductions obviously the passenger shaft goes in to the ptu .. you obviously have to remove it and the axle shaft from the transfer case to the ptu .. i was only referring to removing the shaft from the transfer case to the ptu to make it a fwd.. also you don't need to remove gears to make it fwd
@T-MillProductions25 күн бұрын
I understand what you’re saying, but my point was that on mine the transfer case broke apart when the idler bearing seized. If you remove the rear driveshaft the transfer case still has to be there and functioning to spin the front passenger axle shaft. If yours isn’t bad then yes you can take out the driveshaft but why would you do that if the awd works as it should ?
@iconicxotics368925 күн бұрын
@@T-MillProductions turns out all I had to actually do was pull the AWD fuse and it functions perfectly lol
@360Sebastian3602 жыл бұрын
why not use the empty shell of the transfer case for the seal. you could remove every part possible from the ptu and just mount the part with the seal up.
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
So the passenger axle actually goes into the ptu and has bearings that it rides on so you can’t gut the case or you won’t go anywhere. The original idea was I didn’t wanna spend 600 bucks for a new ptu so I thought maybe I could just convert it to front wheel drive but no dice lol.
@360Sebastian3602 жыл бұрын
@@T-MillProductions Was the only problem with the FWD intermidiary shaft the sealing ? If that is the case it should work. i can use the piece of the transfer case that contains the seal and grind the splines away on the shaft so it wont catch on the splines in the transmission. either that or cut the splined stub that comes out of the transfer case off and just use the empty transfer case as a seal
@360Sebastian3602 жыл бұрын
@@T-MillProductions I also do not see why the shaft needs the bearing in side the transfer case - it is supported by the carrier bearing outside the transmission and also supported by whatever inner bearing the transmission has. I am planning to cut the end off the transfer case input shaft so it no longer engages with the transmission
@T-MillProductions2 жыл бұрын
Let me known how it goes if you make it work. The problem I ran into was I scrapped my old ptu when it blew apart and I didn’t plan to fix the car until the market went crazy so I tried to convert it. The main issue for me was the seal that goes on the side of the transmission was way to small. You might be able to take the ptu case apart and fabricate something to work. The fwd models just have that intermediate shaft held in with a bracket so you don’t have to have the bearing in the ptu to have the axle ride on. Are you gonna try and mount the case empty ?
@360Sebastian3602 жыл бұрын
@@T-MillProductions Yes I will try and mount the case empty, or even possibly full but just cut off the input shaft so that it recieves no power from the transmission. I believe the half shaft just passes through the case and does not ride on any bearing.
